Game StoryWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Kevin Garnett scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half as the Minnesota Timberwolves rallied for their season-high fifth straight victory, 97-89 over the Washington Wizards. Minnesota trailed 58-43 at halftime but scored 12 of the first 16 points in the third quarter and forged a 74-74 tie by the end of the period. "It was a horrible half," Wizards coach Doug Collns said. "The whole thing in that third quarter was that we did not stop them defensively." Garnett converted a three-point play 39 seconds into the fourth quarter to give Minnesota its first lead. Washington faded fast and found itself down, 87-78, after Marc Jackson hit a scoop shot in the lane with 7:35 left to cap a 20-6 run. "Our energy level was totally terrible in the first half," Garnett said. "I felt like I was playing like pure garbage, and I just got upset with myself. So in the second half, I told everybody to just follow the leader, man. I went out there and pressured early, saw the full court, found a little rhythm in my shot and never turned back." Garnett pulled down 10 rebounds for his league-leading 35th double-double. The Timberwolves led by as many as 11 points and earned their fourth straight victory over the Wizards. Jerry Stackhouse led Washington with 21 points but did almost all of his damage before halftime, scoring 16 in the first two periods. Kendall Gill led the Grizzlies with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting. He started and played 30 minutes. "He hasn't played as many minutes, but tonight he had better legs," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said. "He was able to do a lot for us. He was a big reason for us to be able to come back." The Wizards suffered their third consecutive loss and are two games under .500 for the first time since January 2. "I don't think we're regressing," said Washington guard Larry Hughes, who scored 18 points. "We just need to stay together and stay focused on what we're doing. We know we have a good team and though there are times when we are not all on the same page and we don't get the job done, that's something that we are working on as a group." Collins used just three players off the bench but got a combined 25 points from Kwame Brwon, Tyronn Lue and Etan Thomas. Thomas had 10 in a season-high 30 minutes. The Timberwolves likely faced Michael Jordan for the last time. Jordan scored 17 points on 8-of-18 shooting and collected eight rebounds. "It's always fun to play Mike," Garnett said. "He's not old enough to be my dad, I don't think. My mom's a little older than Mike. I always called him my big brother. He's always been there for me whenever I needed some personal advice about an issue. "I've always looked up to him and appreciated not only what he's done for myself but for all the young guys in the league and how he's transcended basketball to a corporate sense."
