Game StoryNEW YORK (Ticker) -- "The Big Apple" has been ice cold of late. That is not the case for Allan Houston, Charlie Ward and the New York Knicks. Houston scored 13 of his 24 points and Ward eight of his 14 in the fourth quarter as the Knicks defeated the Atlanta Hawks, 103-98, for their fifth victory in six games. "When you're playing well, you start doing certain things, forming certain habits," Houston said. Latrell Sprewell added 21 points and Kurt Thomas 18 to help New York cap a 4-1 homestand. "We had different guys stepping up for us," Sprewell said. "When you have multiple guys playing well, it makes it more difficult for teams to key on you and slow you down." The Knicks begin a three-game road trip at Miami on Wednesday. "I can hardly wait," Thomas said of the trip south to much warmer weather. "It's too bad it's only for a short time." New York held a 16-point advantage midway through the second quarter and held a 58-48 lead at the half. But Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored 19 of his 30 points in the third quarter, giving the Hawks a one-point lead on two occasions, including a 75-74 edge on a pair of free throws with 1:22 left. "We let them set the tone early in the game," Hawks coach Terry Stotts said. "We tried to change that in the second half." But Howard Eisley countered with a jumper with 1:05 to play to give the Knicks the lead for good. New York's lead was just 82-79 before Ward nailed a 3-pointer, Houston a jump shot and free throw and Ward a jumper to give the team an 11-point advantage with 7:21 left, and Atlanta got no closer than the final score. "We knew that we didn't play well in the third," said Sprewell, who had 14 points after the first 12 minutes and 19 at the break. "We felt that if we buckled down on defense in the fourth, we would be fine." "We clamped down in the fourth, tried to keep the ball away from (Abdur-Rahim)," Thomas said. The Knicks limited Abdur-Rahim to just five points in the fourth quarter, all in the final 3:02, when the game was out of reach. "(Abdur-Rahim) had a hell of a third quarter," Stotts said. "I gave him a rest and he couldn't get back in the flow." "In the fourth quarter, they started to get the ball out of my hands," Abdur-Rahim said. "Charlie was snapping back on a lot of my post stuff." Abdur-Rahim also grabbed 17 rebounds and Glenn Robinson scored 26 points for the Hawks, who lost for the seventh time in nine games. They have lost their last six contests in New York. Like New York, Atlanta did not have any players selected to the Eastern Conference's All-Star team. "It's always good to make it, but now I'm going to use that time to rest," Robinson said. "I'm more disappointed in not making it now, when I thought I should. A couple of times I made it when I didn't think I was going to, so who knows." Hawks point guard Jason Terry aggravated a hip injury colliding with Knicks center Michael Doleac diving for a loose ball 2 1/2 minutes into the fourth quarter. He sat out, returned briefly to hit a 3-pointer to stop the Knicks' 8-0 run, then sat out the final 5 1/2 minutes. "(Playing tonight) didn't worsen it, didn't help," Terry said. "I may shut it down to get back to 100 percent."
