Game StoryPHOENIX (Ticker) -- Stephon Marbury and Shawn Marion had their way with the Chicago Bulls in regulation. They saw no reason why overtime should be any different. Marbury scored two big baskets and Marion sank a pair of key free throws in the extra session as the Phoenix Suns won for the 13th time in 14 home games, 115-111. Phoenix trailed, 108-105, after Bulls rookie Jay Williams opened the scoring in overtime with a three-point play with 3:18 left. But Joe Johnson nailed a jumper with 2:58 to play and Marbury put the Suns ahead for good, 109-108, on a layup with 2:15 to go. "We threw everybody we had on him," Bulls coach Bill Cartwright said of Marbury. "That kid is a pretty good player, he really is. A lot of his shots were tough." "I just play," Marbury said. "Whenever I see a hole I just take it." Marbury added a running jumper with 1:31 to play that gave Phoenix a 111-108 advantage, and after Williams hit only 1-of-2 free throws with 28 seconds remaining, Marion gave the Suns a four-point advantage with two free throws with 19 seconds to go. Corie Bount got Chicago within 113-111 on a tip with 2.3 seconds left but Marbury iced the game with a pair of free throws with 1.8 to play. Marbury had 36 points and nine assists and Marion added a season-high 36 and nine rebounds for the Suns, who improved to 20-4 at home and recorded their third straight win since a three-game losing streak. "I guess that's what they've been doing all year," Bulls forward Donyell Marshall said of Marbury and Marion. "That's what they were named to the All-Star team for. They came out and did a heck of a job. They got their open shots and made them." Jalen Rose collected 28 points and eight assists and Marshall had 23 points and a season high-tying 18 rebounds for the Bulls, who saw their league-worst road mark fell to 2-24. "We just didn't find a way to close out the game," Rose said. "We had numerous opportunities. We just found a way to squander the opportunity." With the loss, Chicago dropped to 0-4 on its five-game Western Conference road trip. The Bulls are 0-9 against Western teams on the road this season. "We've just got to regroup," Cartwright said. "If we can get the same effort going in Denver (on Tuesday), we'll be fine. The effort was good. We just couldn't finish." The game was tied, 102-102, before Marshall rebounded a missed jumper by Rose and nailed a hook shot in the paint with 27 seconds left in regulation. Marion countered with a 3-pointer with 19 seconds to play to put Phoenix ahead, 105-104, before Rose made 1-of-2 free throws with nine seconds to go. Rose had made 33 consecutive free throws, including his first eight in this contest, before missing the first of his two attempts. "This game is humbling that way," Rose said. "You go out there and shoot them the same way and sometimes they go in and sometimes they don't. But being a great free-throw shooter, I expect to make every one, especially ones at that critical point in the game." Marbury missed a long 3-pointer just before the buzzer, sending the game into overtime. Chicago led after one quarter, 34-27, but Phoenix climbed within 54-53 at the break. The Bulls took an 83-79 advantage into the fourth quarter and a 100-94 edge after Williams nailed a 3-pointer with 2:34 left. But down the stretch, the Bulls could not stop Marbury from penetrating the lane, and the All-Star point guard tied the game, 102-102, on a layup and free throw with 52 seconds to play. "The best part about tonight was that we didn't give up," Marbury said. "We never hung our heads. We never said, 'It's over with.' We just continued to play." "He seems to have that ability where he is so low to the ground," Suns coach Frank Johnson said of Marbury. "So when he is driving it is almost like he uncoils and it's almost like he's Magic (Johnson). I'm not saying he's Magic, but Magic used to come in there and spin, and when he uncoils he was at the basket. Steph is so low that once he explodes he's really at the basket before you know it." Phoenix has won seven of its past nine games against Chicago, including five straight at home. The Bulls have not won in Phoenix since November 20, 1996. "I think they just wanted it more than we did," Marshall said. "We didn't come down and execute the way we should have. We ran our plays and we didn't execute. They came down and hit their shots and we missed a lot of defensive assignments."
