Game StoryATLANTA (Ticker) -- Gilbert Arenas and Jason Richardson extended their All-Star weekend heroics at Philips Arena. Arenas scored a career-high 37 points, including a steal and the go-ahead basket with 17 seconds left, and Richardson added 24 to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 116-113 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. The Warriors improved to 22-27 under rookie coach Eric Musselman, surpassing their win total from last season (21-61). Musselman was an assistant coach with the Hawks for the last two seasons and faced his former team for the first time. "It's certainly nice to surpass our win total from last year one game after the All-Star break," Musselman said. He watched his team control the game most of the way. Golden State led by as many as 22 points in the third quarter and by 15 with 10:18 left. But Dion Glover, who matched a career high with 28 points, and rookie Dan Dickau sparked a comeback by the Hawks. Atlanta tied it at 111-111 on a hook shot by Shareef Abdur-Rahim with 1:23 left. Dickau scored 12 of his season-high 16 points in the fourth quarter. But Arenas saved the Warriors, scoring on a drive from the baseline with 1:08 left and intercepting an inbounds pass from Abdur-Rahim to Dickau before converting the go-ahead basket with 17 seconds remaining. "When I was coming out of the huddle, I said `I'm going to steal the ball,'" Arenas said. "It was funny, he predicted it," Warriors forward Antawn Jamison said. After cutting in front of the pass, Arenas did not hold the ball for a last shot. Instead, he drove to the other end and put in a difficult layup over Dickau. "There was no doubt I was going all the way with it," Arenas said. After Abdur-Rahim missed a short jumper in the lane, Richardson was fouled and converted 1-of-2 free throws with 6.4 seconds left to give Golden State a 116-113 lead. The Hawks had a chance to tie, but Glover hit the front rim on a 3-point attempt at the buzzer. Arenas is averaging 16.4 points this season but gained national attention with his performance in the Rookie Challenge here Saturday, earning Most Valuable Player honors with 30 points. "I've just been feeling it for the last couple of weeks and the All-Star Game helped me," said Arenas, who was 14-of-19 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range. "This was my best game as a pro, although in high school I averaged about 40." Richardson scored 31 points in the Rookie Challenge and successfully defended his Slam Dunk title on Saturday night. The high-flying guard and Michael Jordan are the only repeat winners in the dunk competition. "Our confidence is riding high. I think the All-Star Weekend was big for us," Richardson said. "Hopefully, we can continue this." Rookie Mike Dunleavy, the third overall pick in the draft, provided a lift off the bench for Golden State with 16 points, including three 3-pointers. But Dickau made the biggest impact off the bench. Replacing Jason Terry, who has been the subject of trade rumors and scored just eight points, Dickau scored 12 points to spark a 26-13 fourth-quarter run that pulled the Hawks within 107-105. "We had a good quarter, and that's something I can take away from tonight," Dickau said. "I prided myself in college on being a clutch performer at the end of games. That's something I can take a little bit away from. But losing the game was big." Glenn Robinson had 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting and Abdur-Rahim finished with 16 points for the Hawks. "Their guards beat us up and down the floor and did what they wanted to do," Abdur-Rahim said of Arenas and Richardson. The starting guards combined for 38 points in the first half, when the Warriors hit 7-of-9 3-pointers and built a 64-46 lead. The Hawks jumped out to a 22-15 advantage, but Golden State closed the first quarter with a 17-2 run as Arenas collected 11 points. After Abdur-Rahim scored inside to pull the Hawks within 51-42, the Warriors scored the next 11 points. Golden State had its biggest lead at 80-58 on a basket by Arenas with 6:27 left in the third quarter. But Glover sparked a 17-3 run for the Hawks with eight points, pulling them within 83-75. A 3-pointer at the buzzer by Earl Boykins restored the Warriors' double-digit cushion.
