Game StoryLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Ray Allen continues to lead the resurgence of the Seattle SuperSonics. Allen scored a season-high 40 points and Predrag Drobnjak added 19 as the Sonics matched their longest winning streak of the season with a 109-101 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. Seattle was eight games under .500 when it traded star point guard Gary Payton to Milwaukee for Allen and reserve guard Kevin Ollie. The Sonics have won five of six since the trade and are 4-1 with Allen in the lineup after recording their third four-game winning streak of the season. Allen made 12-of-19 shots from the floor, including 5-of-9 3-pointers, and 11-of-12 free throws as Seattle moved within four games of .500 for the first time since February 3. "We've been fortunate to win," Allen said. "You can't determine whose time it is. It's who goes out there every night and performs. It's up to who takes the lead in moving this team forward." "Ray has done a good job of getting everyone involved and offensively, he's able to create opportunities for himself and everybody else," Seattle coach Nate McMillan said. "The fact that he has 3-point range really opens up opportunities." Ollie and Brent Barry had 12 points apiece and Jerome James and Rashard Lewis each added 10 for the Sonics, who shot 55 percent (40-of-73) from the floor and made 8-of-20 3-pointers. Seattle had a 63-57 lead with 6:31 left in the third quarter before pulling away with a 16-5 run. Allen scored seven points during the spurt, capping it with a 3-pointer for a 79-62 cushion with 1:42 remaining. "To me, it's important to lead by example," Allen said. "It's always that guy that steps up into the limelight. You have to take control, take on the responsibility if you want it." "Ray is a very confident and mature player," McMillan added. "He knows his game and was able to play well tonight." Allen led the Sonics in scoring in each quarter. He had nine points in the final period and sank two free throws for a 102-88 edge with 2:39 remaining. The Clippers responded with seven consecutive points, but Allen made 3-of-4 free throws and Ollie sank a pair in the last 44 seconds. Corey Maggette scored 17 points and Andre Miller added 15 for struggling Los Angeles, which has lost five in a row and seven of eight. "(The Sonics) are 5-1 since they got (Allen), so they are playing pretty good," Clippers coach Alvin Gentry said. "They got a guy who is seven years younger and who is a great offensive player." "They're running things a lot better right now," Los Angeles guard Melvin Ely added. "Ray fits in perfectly with their scheme. He doesn't do anything out of character. He helps his team in every aspect, so he's a great addition to their team." Cherokee Parks scored all of his 12 points in the second half and Quentin Richardson also had 12 as the Clippers played without leading scorer and rebounder Elton Brand, who is sidelined with a stress fracture in his left leg.
