Game Story

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Once again, the smallest 
player on the floor was the biggest spark plug for the Golden
State Warriors.

Earl Boykins scored all 10 of his points in the fourth quarter
to help the Warriors hold off the Indiana Pacers, 107-100, for
their season-high sixth straight victory.

Gilbert Arenas added 22 points and Jason Richardson and Erick
Dampier 20 apiece for the Warriors, who shot 54 percent
(43-of-79) from the field and limited Indiana to 40 percent
(34-of-85).  They moved into a ninth-place tie with Houston in
the Western Conference playoff race, two games behind
eighth-place Phoenix.

Golden State, which had an 80-73 advantage heading into the
fourth quarter, saw the lead dwindle to 86-83 on a layup by
Reggie Miller with 8:16 to play.

Boykins countered with two free throws 20 seconds later to start
a 10-0 run that ended with a step-under jumper by the 5-5 point
guard with 5:58 left after he pump-faked the 6-11 Jermaine
O'Neal.  Boykins scored six points and Antawn Jamison four in
the burst.

"When they made their run, instead of playing passive, we talked
about really trying to attack," Warriors coach Eric Musselman
said.  "Most teams get on their heels and it was important for
us to run and leak out."

Indiana climbed within 100-96 on a 3-pointer by Ron Artest with
1:51 to play, but Boykins answered with a floater in the paint,
and the Pacers got no closer.  It was the eighth time this
season that Boykins scored at least 10 points in the fourth
quarter.

With the win, Golden State improved to 30-30.

"Nobody expected us to be .500, but we all believed in
ourselves," Arenas said.   "Right now, it's not that we're .500,
it's that we started off rugged and we fought back hard, so
we're going to celebrate."

"Down the stretch, anything could happen," Dampier said.  "From
here on out, we're just taking it one game at a time and we'll
see what happens.  We know that if we go out and play hard with
a lot of effort that we'll put ourselves in a position to win
some more games."

The Warriors have not reached the playoffs since the 1993-94
season.

"I don't care about the '93-'94 team, I was in high school,"
Jamison said.  "This is the 2002-03 Warriors and we just got to
continue to work and try to improve every time we get on the
court."

Golden State had not won six in a row since an eight-game streak
from April 9-23, 1994.

"They're definitely much more confident," Miller said of the
Warriors.  "They're becoming well-disciplined and they play
extremely hard and their overall team speed is very good."

Artest scored 32 points and O'Neal 21 for the Pacers, who lost
their sixth straight road contest in the opener of a tough
four-game stretch out west.

"Those guys came out and played hard," O'Neal said.  "This is a
good, young team that's going to have a lot to say in the next
couple of years.  We didn't match that energy and didn't shoot
the ball as well as we wanted to."

The Pacers, who also visit Western Conference powers the Los
Angeles Lakers, Portland and Sacramento, have dropped seven of
their last eight overall.

"It's all right," Artest said.  "We'll get it back tomorrow,
beat the Lakers."
