Game Story

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- The Seattle SuperSonics may have lost two players but they still haven't lost at home to the Memphis Grizzlies. The SuperSonics improved to 14-0 all-time at home against the Grizzlies as they rode 25 points from Ray Allen to an easy 95-71 victory. On Thursday, the SuperSonics suspended reserve guard Joe Forte one game for a violation of team rules. They also were without forward Rashard Lewis, their second-leading scorer who suffered a sprained right wrist and bruised right knee in Wednesday's loss to Washington. "He's feeling a little sore right now," Sonics coach Nate McMillan said. "He will continue to get treatment tomorrow, get another massage or two and try and get him ready for Sunday's game." The Sonics did not miss Lewis or Forte as they grabbed the lead for good in the opening moments. They led by 13 points after one period, 18 at halftime and 29 early in the fourth quarter. "These guys played well," McMillan said. "I thought at the start we set the tone on the defensive end of the floor. One of the keys to the game was to limit their transition and get to their shooters. I thought we did both of those things early." The Grizzlies, who entered the NBA in 1995, matched a season low for points as they shot just 32 percent (25-of-78) from the field. That led to a season-high 59 rebounds for Seattle, which remained on the fringes of the Western Conference playoff race. "When you shoot 32 percent, there is a ton of rebounds coming off, and when you have only seven offensive rebounds, you realize no one on your offensive line is working," Grizzlies coach Hubie Brown said. Vladimir Radmanovic picked up the slack for the absence of Lewis with 21 points and 10 rebounds. The Sonics remained 3 1/2 games behind Phoenix in the crowded race for the final postseason berth. "I like to start because I'm warmed up and I've got my rhythm right away," said Radmanovic, who usually comes off the bench. "Rashard wasn't in the lineup and that's why I was in the starting lineup, but I'm gonna come out next year and try to take my spot in the starting lineup." "It's an opportunity for other guys to step up," McMillan said. "I thought Radmanovic certainly did that on both ends of the floor." Peja Drobnjak scored 10 of his 12 points in the first quarter as Seattle limited Memphis to 5-of-20 shooting. A 3-pointer by Wesley Person pulled the Grizzlies within 37-30 with 3:56 left in the second quarter. But Allen had a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points in a 13-2 burst that closed the half and built the lead to 50-32. Memphis got no closer than 15 points thereafter. A jumper by Allen made it 67-46 with 2:57 left in the third quarter. Two free throws by Kevin Ollie gave the Sonics their largest lead at 92-63 with 2:04 to play. Brent Barry had 14 points and 10 assists for Seattle, which shot 41 percent (40-of-98). Pau Gasol scored 13 points and Lorenzen Wright grabbed 15 rebounds for the Grizzlies.
