Game Story

INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- A visit from the league's worst road 
team was all the Indiana Pacers needed to get back on track.

The Pacers shot just under 62 percent from the field, rolling to
a 140-89 victory over the Chicago Bulls, who dropped to 3-35 on
the road in the most lopsided game in the NBA this season.

Indiana made 52-of-84 shots, recording its highest point total.
The Pacers scored 39 points in the first quarter, 35 in the
second, 31 in the third and 35 in the fourth.

The Pacers snapped a two-game losing streak and won for just the
fifth time in their last 20 games.

"I thought our team played really well in terms of sharing the
basketball," Indiana coach Isiah Thomas. "The thing I thought
was most impressive in a blowout was we continued to play the
right way."

Brad Miller scored 22 points and Al Harrington added 19 to lead
seven players in double figures for the Pacers, who were in
control virtually from the start. Indiana led 39-28 after one
quarter, 74-46 at halftime and 105-68 after three periods.

Tim Hardaway recorded 14 points and seven assists in his first
game for the Pacers since signing a contract for the remainder
of the season on Thursday.

"I can shoot the ball," said Hardaway, a five-time All-Star who
last played in the NBA during the 2001-02 season with Dallas and
Denver.  "I'm not worried about my scoring. I was more worried
about bringing the ball up, making the right plays, getting us
into the offense."

"I don't plan on expecting this (from Hardaway) every night,"
Thomas said of his fellow Chicago native.  "He had 14 points,
seven assists and four rebounds, three steals and eight
deflections. He's a gym rat. When he's 50, he'll be in a gym
playing."

Eddy Curry scored 18 points for the Bulls, who suffered their
10th straight loss in Indiana and their eight straight road
defeat. Chicago is the only Eastern Conference team that has not
won a game at Canseco Fieldhouse.

The 51-point defeat fell just two shy of the worst setback in
Bulls history, a 127-74 drubbing at Minnesota on November 8,
2001.

Chicago was coming off an 82-74 win over Miami, its fourth
straight home victory. The Bulls are 23-12 at the United Center
this season.

"This was our worst effort," Chicago coach Bill Cartwright said.
"It's very disappointing. It doesn't reflect our team, but it
does reflect our effort on the road. We are going to need to
identify why we have this Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde act."

The Pacers shot 64 percent (28-of-43) in the first half,
including 73 percent (16-of-22) in the first period.  They also
held a whopping 59-27 edge on the boards, with three players
reaching double figures.  Jermaine O'Neal had 11 and Miller and
Jeff Foster 10 apiece.

The Pacers posted their second-most lopsided win since joining
the NBA. Their largest margin of victory came in a 124-59
whipping of the Portland Trail Blazers at Market Square Arena on
February 27, 1998.

"We shared the ball tonight and really played as a unit," Foster
said. "Everybody got involved and contributed and that is what
we will have to do in the future."

The Bulls closed to 30-25 on Curry's two foul shots with 2:06
left in the first quarter, but Indiana broke it open with a 27-8
spurt, taking a 57-33 lead on Jonathan Bender's two free throws
with 6:31 to play in the first half.

"Tonight's performance represents a total embarrassment," Bulls
guard Jalen Rose said. "Our play on the road is almost like a
basketball travesty. Yeah, we're learning and our learning curve
is growing, but people have to understand that improvement is
not based on what's on a stat sheet. It's based on your
performance on the court, especially on the road."

The Pacers reached the century mark on Miller's jumper with 2:29
left in the third quarter. The final score represented
Indiana's biggest lead.

"We came out strong and coach told us that this was what we had
to do, not only for one quarter, but for four quarters," Bender
said. "I think this stayed with us tonight."

Rose and Jamal Crawford added 14 and 12 points, respectively,
for the Bulls, who shot 41 percent (36-of-88).
