Game StorySEATTLE (Ticker) -- Long shots by Rashard Lewis and Brent Barry kept the Seattle SuperSonics a long shot to make the playoffs. Lewis made a pair of go-ahead 3-pointers in the final four minutes and Barry made the clincher with 18 seconds left as the SuperSonics edged the Los Angeles Clippers, 101-93, to stay in the Western Conference playoff race. The SuperSonics appeared to be going into full rebuilding mode when they traded Gary Payton to Milwaukee on February 20. But they have gone 15-8 since trading the best player in franchise history and have remained on the edge of the race. Seattle (37-38) won for the fourth time in five games and moved within 2 1/2 games of Phoenix (39-35) for eighth place in the West. It also kept pace with Houston (39-37) and has games remaining against both clubs. "We need to win to stay alive and that's how we're playing now," Sonics coach Nate McMillan said. "That's how we have to approach every game." "I don't like to talk about it," Barry added. "We want to keep playing. We want to keep building and trying to keep winning as many games as we can. We're right on the cusp of obtaining a smaller goal, and that's to get back to .500." Predrag Drobnjak scored a career-high 26 points for the Sonics, who squandered leads of 12 points in the first half and 15 in the third quarter before using a late surge. Eric Piatkowski scored 21 points, Lamar Odom added 19 and Elton Brand 15 and 19 rebounds for the Clippers, who fell to 4-13 under interim coach Dennis Johnson. Two free throws by Andre Miller pulled LA into an 83-83 tie with 4:18 remaining before Lewis drilled a 3-pointer. A short jumper by Ray Allen extended the advantage to 88-84 before baskets by Odom and Sean Rooks tied it with 2:04 to play. Lewis struck again, draining a 3-pointer that gave Seattle the lead for good with 1:47 to go. Drobnjak had a three-point play for a 94-88 lead with 1:16 remaining. "It was all confidence," Lewis said. "When you've got confidence in your shots, you have no hesitation and you have a 90 percent chance of making it." Piatkowski made a 3-pointer to halve the deficit, but Allen answered with a jumper. Rooks made two free throws to cut it to 96-93, but Barry buried his clinching shot. "I didn't feel very good. I didn't feel like I was in rhythm," said Barry, who made just 3-of-11 shots. "It came down to the last couple minutes of the game and they were playing us the same way, double-teaming up top on Ray. I felt like I was going to make that one." "Brent Barry's three at the end was the dagger," Brand said. Barry scored 15 points for the Sonics, who shot 43.5 percent (34-of-75), including 8-of-24 from the arc. They also made 25-of-28 free throws. "We knocked down some shots and got some stops," McMillan said. Rooks scored 10 points for the Clippers, who shot under 39 percent (31-of-80) but held a 49-33 rebounding edge. "The guy we helped on (Allen), the other guys beat us," Johnson said. "We came up here and played well. They just hit a couple shots at the end." Drobnjak's 11 points helped Seattle to a 30-20 lead after one quarter. Los Angeles fought back to 45-40 at halftime before allowing the deficit to grow to 61-46 on a 3-pointer by Drobnjak with 7:15 left in the third quarter. But Piatkowski scored nine points and Odom seven as the Clippers stormed back to take a 74-72 lead into the final period.
