Game StoryATLANTA (Ticker) -- After beginning the season on a long losing streak, the Memphis Grizzlies may be ending it with another. The Grizzlies, who dropped their first 13 games, lost their seventh in a row, 97-91, to the Atlanta Hawks. Despite 25 points and 13 rebounds from Pau Gasol, the Grizzlies were never closer than eight points in the fourth quarter until Gasol hit a pair of free throws with 5.5 seconds left to make the final margin look more respectable. "We weren't very ready for this game," Gasol said. "They got a lot of fast break points. We couldn't stop that. It was basically a gift game. We let them run, we didn't get back." The Hawks took control with an 18-6 run at the start of the third quarter. Ira Newble had eight points during the spurt and capped it with a layup on a fast break with six minutes left to give Atlanta a 69-48 lead. Newble had 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Jason Terry, who had six points during Atlanta's decisive surge, led the Hawks with 23 points. "It was a good win for us tonight," Terry said. "We moved the ball around well, especially around the perimeter, and everyone got their touches." All five Atlanta starters scored in double figures. The Hawks got only eight points from their bench. The Grizzlies' starting five combined for just 50 points, getting none from point guard Jason Williams, who missed all nine of his shots. Memphis forward Lorenzen Wright injured his thumb in the first half and could not continue after trying to play in the second half. He had eight points and 10 rebounds. "Wright might have a torn ligament in his thumb," Grizzlies coach Hubie Brown said. "That was a major loss." The Hawks played without Glenn Robinson, who sat out with inflammation of his left achilles tendon. "With Dog out, (Dion Glover) and I have to pick it up, and I think we did tonight," Newble said. "Tonight, I ran the floor well and Memphis did not seem to get back on defense. That led to some easy baskets. We were keeping everyone involved tonight and moving the ball well." Led by Terry's seven, the Hawks had 24 assists and only 11 turnovers. Glover scored 20 points on 9-of-17 shooting.
