Game StoryNEW YORK (Ticker) -- Latrell Sprewell hit a pair of 3-pointers down the stretch to help keep the New York Knicks' paper-thin playoff hopes alive with a 99-95 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. New York (35-43) needs to win all of its remaining games, have Milwaukee lose all of its games and also have Washington lose three times in order to avoid missing the playoffs for the second straight year. "We are still in the hunt until we're mathematically out of it," said Knicks center Kurt Thomas, who had 15 points and eight rebounds. "Milwaukee has been playing well. As long as we get some help and keep winning, we are still in it." The Knicks never trailed but nearly let the game slip away late as Atlanta used a 10-2 run to close to 91-88 with 1:58 left. But Allan Houston, who led New York with 29 points, hit a jumper with his foot on the 3-point line at the other end and Sprewell made a shot from behind it on the Knicks' next possession to rebuild the lead to eight points. "I just think it was great execution by Charlie (Ward) and Kurt getting me open," Houston said. "Then my job was just to knock down a shot." The Hawks did not disappear as Theo Ratliff made a jumper and Shareef Abdur-Rahim hit two free throws with 33 seconds left. On New York's next trip, Atlanta did not give a foul and Sprewell, who scored 21 points, hit a 3-pointer from the corner with 10 seconds remaining to ice the game. "The two shots that turned the tide were the one up top (by Houston) and Spree hitting the shot in the corner with Theo flying at him," Atlanta coach Terry Stotts said. "They made two big shots in the last two minutes to turn the game around." Jason Terry scored 27 points for Atlanta. Even with the 3-point flurry at the end, the teams combined to shoot just 20 percent (7-of-35) from the arc. Abdur-Rahim and teammate Dion Glover each scored 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting. The Knicks took three of four games from the Hawks this season, although they often struggled against other non-playoff teams. New York lost to Toronto and the Los Angeles Clippers on a recent road trip to put their playoff hopes in serious jeopardy. "We feel like we are a playoff team," Sprewell said. "We just had some games where, down the stretch, it didn't go our way."
