Game StoryMIAMI (Ticker) -- Eddie Jones had a milestone night but needed Brian Grant to bail him out. Jones scored 27 points before Grant's tip-in with 18 seconds left in overtime gave the Miami Heat a 105-101 victory over the Washington Wizards, who have lost three straight games. Jones became the 24th player in NBA history to make 1,000 3-pointers, catching Danny Ainge on the all-time list. His fourth and final 3-pointer of the game gave the Heat an 82-71 lead, but they could not hold it. Jones was partially responsible for the collapse, missing 1-of-2 free throws with 8.1 seconds left before Larry Hughes sent the game to overtime with a layup. Washington never got the lead in the extra session, and Jones redeemed himself with a pair of free throws to ice the game. "It was definitely tougher than it had to be," Jones said. "I have to hit those foul shots down the stretch. I'm normally automatic, 90-plus percentage, and I go down there and brick a couple. We had the chance to run them out of the gym and we didn't. We let them back in the game." Washington's Gilbert Arenas scored 27 points but none in the final 7:21. Hughes added 22 for the Wizards. "They played good defense, rebounded the ball and were able to get on us quick," Hughes said. "I thought they were a little tired, but they got a couple of good looks at the basket and won the game." Lamar Odom scored a season-high 26 points for the Heat, who have won back-to-back games for the first time since December 30. Miami took the lead for good at 100-99 when Odom made 1-of-2 free throws with 52 seconds left. "We need to learn how to close out games," Odom said. "We need to do the fundamental things that winners do." "The problem is we got in position to win and guys got tentative," Heat coach Stan Van Gundy said. "But we hung in there. To lose an 11-point lead and come back in overtime, that's hard to do." The Heat shot 41 percent (38-of-93) from the field, while the Wizards shot 45 percent (39-of-87). Grant and Odom had 12 rebounds apiece. Washington's 20-9 fourth-quarter run could have been a game-winning surge if Arenas or Hughes had converted either of a pair of shots in the final minute. "There is nothing negative that came out of this game," Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said. "It was a very positive thing to execute the way we did, to hang on, to make stops."
