Game Story

TORONTO (Ticker) -- A couple of born-and-bred Philadelphians carried the 76ers for the first three quarters before Eric Snow took over in the final period. Snow scored eight of his season-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead the shorthanded 76ers to an 81-75 victory over the Toronto Raptors, who suffered their first home loss of the season. With starters Allen Iverson, Glenn Robinson and Derrick Coleman receiving treatment for injuries and not making the trip north of the border, the Sixers relied on the offense of Marc Jackson and Aaron McKie, who were raised in Philadelphia and played collegiately at Temple. "I have 'NP' on my sneakers, which stands for North Philadelphia, where I was born and raised," Jackson said. "I take a little more pride with this team because it is my hometown." "I take a lot of pride in it," McKie added. "It just goes to show that anything can happen in this league." Jackson scored 23 points and McKie added 21 - both season highs - while Snow served as distributor until taking charge of the offense down the stretch. Snow opened the final period by beating the shot clock with a jumper for a 64-58 lead. Another jumper midway through the quarter helped Philadelphia match its largest lead at 72-64. Yet another jumper at the 2:33 mark kept the advantage at 78-71. "We were able to get some baskets in transition that really helped us," Snow said. "It forced them to play some help defense, which created some wide-open looks." "He was great," McKie said. "Anytime the shot clock went down, he had the ball in his hands and he made a play for us." And after a series of misses by the rim-rattling Raptors, Snow sealed the win with two free throws with 6.7 seconds to go. "I played way more minutes than I usually play and I was just trying to be involved in every way - push the tempo, rebound and play good defense," said Snow, who played 43 minutes. Despite losing center Samuel Dalembert to a strained left hamstring in the first half, the Sixers snapped a two-game slide and improved to 6-6, which is good enough for first place in the woefully weak Atlantic Division. Vince Carter had 20 points and seven assists for the Raptors, who had won their first five games at the Air Canada Centre. "This one hurts a little bit," said Carter, who made just 8-of-20 shots. "We can't afford to lose games like this when they are missing three of their top players." Philadelphia has won four straight games in the series and the last four in Toronto dating to November 25, 2001. "We have a different mind-set (on the road) and tonight we didn't let the crowd affect us," Jackson said. Raptors rookie forward Chris Bosh had his second straight solid game with 16 points and six blocks. But Toronto, last in the NBA in offense, was held below 80 points for the seventh time in 11 games. "I think down the stretch as Vince gets looks and we run (isolation) plays for him and he gets double-teams, he can look for me and I'll have chances to score," said Bosh, who had 25 points in Sunday's double-overtime win over Houston.
