Game StoryPHOENIX (Ticker) -- New coach, same result.Shawn Marion scored 16 points to lead seven players in double figures as the Phoenix Suns spoiled the coaching debut of Johnny Davis and handed the Orlando Magic their 11th straight loss, 96-89. "Everybody got involved and it is a good win for us," Marion said. "We had seven guys in double figures, that is a quality win." Stephon Marbury added 14 points and 11 assists for the Suns, who failed to reach 100 points for the 11th straight game, tying the franchise record set in the first 11 games of the 1996-97 season. Tracy McGrady led the Magic with 20 points, but it wasn't enough as they fell to 0-5 on the road and 0-7 against Western Conference opponents. Davis was promoted from assistant coach after Doc Rivers was fired following Monday's 90-88 loss at Utah. "I was doing my job, getting my guys involved, just trying to make things happen," McGrady said. "Every time I touched it, they were sending another guy at me." Joe Johnson's jumper 18 seconds into the third quarter put Phoenix ahead for good, 50-49. The Suns used a 14-2 run in the third quarter to build a 66-53 cushion with 7:01 left. They had a 75-64 cushion heading to the final period. "The third quarter is what really got us in the hole," Davis said. "We had to try and fight back. We closed it in the fourth quarter, but we just couldn't finish it." Orlando scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter to get within 75-72 with 9:15 to play. But the Suns used good ball movement and solid shooting to preserve the lead. Phoenix shot 51 percent (40-of-78), making 6-of-12 3-pointers. The Suns also had 28 assists against just 12 turnovers while Orlando committed 18 turnovers. "We tried to force them into turnovers and then capitalize on them so that we can get out and run," Marbury said. The Magic outrebounded Phoenix, 50-34, but could not keep pace with the Suns' hot shooting. Orlando connected at 42 percent (36-of-86), hitting just 5-of-19 3-pointers. Seven of Orlando's losses have been by seven points or fewer and the Magic are hoping Davis can make a difference in close games. "This will be a work in progress," Davis said. "You have to stay active and try to do the little things right and put your heart and soul into it. Eventually, it will end. It won't last forever." Davis is in his second stint as an NBA coach. He guided the Philadelphia 76ers to a 22-60 record in 1996-97, Allen Iverson's rookie season.
