Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Peja Stojakovic was hot enough in the third quarter to keep the Sacramento Kings on fire. Stojakovic scored 12 of his 26 points in the third quarter as the Kings pulled away and posted their sixth straight win, 109-89 over the Memphis Grizzlies. The Kings trailed 57-56 at halftime but outscored the Grizzlies, 31-14, in the third period and never looked back. Stojakovic's driving layup capped a 19-4 run that opened the half and made it 75-61. "I think we just came out with a lot more energy in the second half," Stojakovic said. "We were more aggressive, we moved the ball a lot more and got easier opportunities." The Kings' aggressiveness translated into mistakes by the Grizzlies, who committed eight of their 19 turnovers in the decisive period. "The third quarter killed us," said former King Jason Williams, who collected 15 points and six assists. "We just had too many turnovers and they went into one of their runs." Sacramento trailed by 11 points after the first quarter but led by as many as 25 down the stretch. "We just gave them open looks (in the first)," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "I thought we were a totally different team in the second half. We defended them better, we took things away a little bit better and offensively, we were much smarter the way we played." Stojakovic made 10-of-15 shots from the field and grabbed nine rebounds. The Kings also got 16 points from Mike Bibby and 15 from Vlade Divac, improving to 8-0 at Arco Arena and remaining one of three unbeaten home teams in the NBA. The Grizzlies have lost back-to-back games after winning three of four. Pau Gasol led Memphis with 21 points and 10 rebounds. "We just couldn't get anything going," Grizzlies coach Hubie Brown said. "We shot (29) percent in the second half, and you can't do that when you play San Antonio, Dallas, LA or Sacramento on their home floor." California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger made his first appearance at Arco Arena since his inauguration Monday.
