Game StoryAUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- Richard Hamilton scored a career-high 44 points to lift the Detroit Pistons to a 92-88 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, whose road losing streak reached 31 games. Hamilton made 15-of-23 shots from the field, including the only 3-pointer he attempted, and was 13-of-15 from the free-throw line. "I was in a flow, everything was in a flow of the game," he said. Hamilton had 22 points in the first half and 14 in the fourth quarter. His previous career high was 41 against Golden State on March 29, 2001. Silas tried using different defenders on Hamilton as Davis, James and Ira Newble took turns. But no one had much success. Newble returned after serving a one-game suspension for arguing with Silas after Saturday's loss at Atlanta. He scored 12 points and guarded Hamilton for most of the third quarter, when the Pistons guard scored just eight points. "He was coming off screens so well that no matter who was guarding him, we had trouble," Davis said. "It's just one of those things. In this league, when certain guys get hot, there's not much you can do about it." Elden Campbell added 13 points and Tayshaun Prince had 12 as Detroit rebounded from Wednesday's 90-86 loss at Philadelphia. Ricky Davis returned to the starting lineup and led Cleveland with 25 points, but the Cavaliers remained winless on the road since January 12 at Seattle. "Guys aren't thinking about that, but maybe we should start thinking about it. Maybe that would help us," Davis said. "It's not a good streak to be on." Davis dressed Wednesday, but coach Paul Silas kept him out of an 82-72 loss at New Orleans for disciplinary reasons. Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 14 points and Chris Mihm had 14 and 13 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who have lost five in a row overall. Rookie LeBron James had just six points on 2-of-8 shooting and seven assists. "I didn't take enough shots," James said. "That (six points) comes from not taking enough shots and not being ready to shoot the ball." Cleveland went on a 20-4 run bridging the final two quarters to build a 79-74 lead with 5:09 to go. But Detroit responded with a 15-2 spurt behind 11 points from Hamilton and went ahead 89-81 with 18 seconds to play. "Anytime we're right there against one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, (it's more frustrating)," James said. "It's the second time it has happened to us. It happened with Indiana also." Silas also inserted Michael Stewart into his rotation. Stewart was not allowed to travel with the team Wednesday after violating team rules but got his first start of the season. Silas used Stewart in an attempt to nullify Ben Wallace on the backboards, but Wallace had 15 rebounds while Stewart managed six in 18 minutes. Cleveland shot 46 percent (36-of-79) and held Detroit to 41 percent (32-of-78). "It's a good win tonight, but let's face it - against a good team, we lose this game," Wallace said. Darko Milicic, the second overall draft pick behind James, did not play for the Pistons.
