Game StoryPHOENIX (Ticker) -- Sam Cassell and Kevin Garnett were dominant in the fourth quarter. The Phoenix Suns were not and suffered a rare home loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Cassell scored 16 of his season-high 27 points and Garnett eight of his 16 in the final period as the Timberwolves pulled away from the Suns, 92-79, for just their third triumph in their last 11 tries at America West Arena. Latrell Sprewell added 21 points and Garnett 12 rebounds for Minnesota, which had lost three of its previous four games overall. "The other guys had such good games in the fourth, I was able to be 1-on-1 and took advantage of it when I had the chance," Garnett said. The game was tied, 64-64, before Cassell nailed a 3-pointer with 9:11 remaining to give Minnesota the lead for good, then added a jumper just over a minute later to make it 69-64. "Strong finish," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said. "We executed plays. I was able to call more sets and get us organized and not so discombobulated. Guys ran hard cuts, ran good sets and guys made easy plays." "We talked about executing down the stretch," Cassell said. "We don't want to get flashy with it, we just want to pound it in. We want to run our sets and if you get an open shot, take it. We looked at some tape and realized we needed to take more control of the game and that's what we did." Shawn Marion countered with a turnaround jumper, but Garnett scored six points in an 11-0 run that made it 80-66 with 5:04 left. Phoenix got no closer than eight points thereafter. "The fourth quarter we missed some shots that I thought we had a chance of making and then we passed up some shots, and they did a good job of clogging down the middle," Suns coach Frank Johnson said. "They knew that we weren't shooting very well, but I don't think it was their defense. It is just our confidence right now with shots." Stephon Marbury scored 32 points but forwards Amare Stoudemire and Marion were limited to 14 and eight, respectively, for the Suns, who shot just 38 percent (34-of-89) en route to setting a season low for points. "Steph gets 30 every time. What we wanted to do is put pressure on him as much as possible and not let the other guys get off," Saunders said. "Make him work for his 30. There is no question he is the best point guard in the league." "I don't think it was our offense tonight. Our defense was bad tonight, in spurts," Marbury said. "We didn't stop anybody as a team tonight. We were not helping each other like we normally help each other. We are just in a bad funk." The Suns have lost three straight home games for the first time since February 15-19, 2002. "It is very tough to be at home and play as bad as we have," Marbury said. "But we have to go on the road for four games in five nights, and it doesn't get any easier."
