Game StoryMEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- It didn't take long for Bonzi Wells to get back at his former team. Wells scored 10 of his 16 points in the decisive fourth quarter as the Memphis Grizzlies rallied for their fifth straight win, a 93-79 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. The Grizzlies acquired Wells from the Blazers on Wednesday for Wesley Person and a conditional 2004 first-round draft pick. Wells, who stripped of his co-captaincy and benched before the trade, waited just three days to face the team that gave up on him. "There were definitely different feelings going on in my head," he said. "But I'm a Grizzly now, with Portland behind me, and I'm going to start a new chapter in Memphis." Portland led by as many as 15 points and was in front, 70-69, after Zach Randolph opened the fourth quarter with a dunk. But Memphis scored 22 of the next 29 points, including eight by Wells. "I told (Memphis center Lorenzen Wright), 'Man, they're about to start bugging,'" Wells said of his former team's collapse. "I could see it in their eyes. It's just like that sometimes. When you get a reputation, it sticks with you." Earl Watson, who dished out a career-high 14 assists, gave the Grizzlies the lead for good with his only basket of the game - a jumper with 10:48 remaining. Stromile Swift made a pair of free throws for Memphis and Wells had consecutive baskets around a jumper by Portland's Rasheed Wallace. Wells added two layups during the spurt, which Pau Gasol finished with a technical free-throw after Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks was ejected, giving the Grizzlies a 91-77 cushion with 72 seconds remaining. Wells fittingly capped the scoring, burying a running jumper with 40 seconds left, as Memphis (12-8) continued the best start in franchise history. "This is a team," Wells said. "Everybody's playing together and on the same page. Everybody's unselfish, and that's what good ball is all about." Gasol finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds, helping the Grizzlies - one of the worst rebounding teams in the NBA - to a 53-39 edge on the glass. "Rebounding is always about people," Memphis coach Hubie Brown said. "We didn't like out softness by our frontcourt, but we came out in the second half and did an excellent job of taking care of the paint." Bo Outlaw had 10 rebounds and Swift grabbed nine for Memphis, which overcame 38 percent (38-of-99) shooting with 28 offensive boards leading to 27 points. "They just outworked us," Cheeks said. "It was nothing special they did, they just played harder. They beat us in every facet of the game. They got 28 offensive rebounds, and if that isn't a record it's close. That's pretty much the game right there." Randolph had 29 points and 13 rebounds but saw limited action down the stretch after picking up his fifth foul with 8 1/2 minutes left. The Blazers struggled without their leading scorer, managing just 11 points on 5-of-13 shooting in the fourth quarter. They had just seven points in the final nine minutes. Portland, which has won 10 of 12 home games this season, fell to 0-6 on the road. It is one of two NBA teams without a road victory. "We obviously came here to win a basketball game, and we don't win it," Cheeks said. "We are 0-6 on the road. We just have to figure out how to sustain effort and not get outhustled."
