Game Story

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Manu Ginobili was unstoppable in crunch time. Ginobili scored 11 consecutive points down the stretch to lift the San Antonio Spurs to a 96-82 triumph over the reeling Chicago Bulls. Ginobili had 14 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter for the Spurs, who handed the Bulls a 10th loss in 11 games. "He's a character," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "He has unbroken confidence. He plays hell-bent for leather and has no fear. Tonight, he played very smart and got a lot of backdoor (layups). He also played good defense." Tim Duncan collected 17 points and 14 rebounds and Rasho Nesterovic added 17 points for San Antonio, which has won six in a row over Chicago since a setback here on December 28, 2000. San Antonio trailed, 76-75, before Ginobili nailed a 3-pointer with 4:28 left. He added two more shots from the arc and a layup to make it 86-76 with 2:39 remaining. "What can I say about it?" Ginobili said. "After the first one, I felt good. Then Tony (Parker) called some plays for me and I felt confident. Then he called a couple of plays for backdoors and they worked, too. It was just a good stretch." "It was great," said Parker, who had 13 points and seven assists. "It's my job to find guys when they're hot. We ran some plays for him and he was good." Jamal Crawford had 26 points to pace Chicago, which fell to 2-8 at home this season and 1-3 under coach Scott Skiles. "The last three games we had a lead in the fourth quarter (before losing)," Crawford said. "We just have to learn how to finish off." The Spurs shot just 35 percent in the first half (12-of-34) and trailed at the break, 38-31. But they got hot in the second half, connecting on 65 percent of their attempts (24-of-57). "We did much better in the second half, playing with energy," Ginobili said. "The first half was awful. We looked like we didn't want to be there. After halftime, we came out with more aggressiveness and toughness, and everything went better." San Antonio converted 19 Chicago turnovers into 27 points, while the Bulls scored only 11 points off 17 Spurs giveaways. "We were in position, down two, up one, and then we really struggled with turnovers," Skiles said. "We threw a couple away, we lost Ginobili and the game got away from us."
