Game Story

NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- Jamaal Magloire inside was the best option for the New Orleans Hornets on a night when their outside shooting was off. Magloire collected 20 points and 11 rebounds as the Hornets overcame poor 3-point shooting in a 91-85 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. New Orleans was a dismal 15 percent (4-of-26) from the arc and Baron Davis missed all 10 of his attempts. But Magloire was the difference in the post, making 7-of-10 shots and three straight in the fourth quarter. "Our outside shots weren't falling," Magloire said. "The highest-percentage shots are the closest you get to the bucket. They went to me and I was able to convert." Magloire posted his seventh double-double and scored at least 20 points for the third time in those contests. Joe Smith's inside basket pulled Milwaukee within 84-81 with 2:19 remaining. The Hornets turned to Magloire, who capped a string of six straight points for New Orleans by dropping in a hook with just under two minutes to go. "Big Cat (Magloire) hit some big shots," Davis said. "Our big guys really made up for the poor shooting of our guards." Davis added 18 points and 10 assists and David Wesley chipped in 18 points. Wesley and Darrell Armstrong each made just 2-of-7 shots from the arc. "One thing about us shooting jumpers with the guards is we had good looks, but couldn't knock them down," Armstrong said. "It was unbelievable - almost like they put a lid on that thing." The weary Hornets, who shot 38 percent (33-of-86), completed a grueling stretch of five games in seven days. Milwaukee lost its third straight despite an energized effort on the glass. Smith, who had 13 points and 15 boards, keyed a 59-47 rebounding advantage that featured 20 offensive rebounds. But the Bucks' shooters had the same problems that the Hornets encountered as their starting backcourt of Michael Redd and rookie T.J. Ford combined to make only 8-of-32 shots. Ford had six assists and five of Milwaukee's 17 turnovers. "Our shooting hurt us," Bucks coach Terry Porter said. "We just couldn't make anything. It was a tough night."
