Game Story

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- David Wesley and the rest of the New Orleans Hornets had the shooter's touch. Wesley and Baron Davis each made four 3-pointers and the Hornets sank 12 en route to their fourth straight win, a 96-85 victory over the Golden State Warriors. Davis had 27 points and 12 assists, making 4-of-10 3-pointers. After a slump that saw him make just 9-of-68 from the arc, Davis has made four in each of the last two games, both road wins. "He's been outstanding on this road swing and I think he's kind of returned to that form he had in the first 11-12 games of the year, where he's not solely relying on the perimeter shot," Hornets coach Tim Floyd said. "He's making an awful lot happen off the penetration." Wesley scored 23 points, making 4-of-6 from the arc. He overcame a slow start that saw him make just two of his first 11 shots with one of the strangest shots of the season. After Davis made a 3-pointer to snap a 79-79 tie, Wesley launched one from the left corner that appeared short. It hit the rim five times before dropping through for a six-point lead with 4:19 to play. "What can I say? It hit short like many of my shots tonight and found its way," Wesley said. "It's one of those almost impossible shots. ... They always say 100 percent of short shots don't go in; change that to 99 percent." The Warriors closed to 85-83 with 2:21 left on a layup by Mike Dunleavy, Jr., who scored 25 points. But Wesley buried another 3-pointer in front of Golden State's bench and P.J. Brown scored inside for a 90-83 lead with 1:37 to play. Brown had 16 points and 15 rebounds for the Hornets, who made 12-of-22 from the arc. "We got a lot of open looks," Davis said. "I know I did." "It's been a staple of our team," Floyd said. "People wonder why we take them, but that's where our strength of scoring is, and we're trying to mix it with more inside play." The Hornets improved to 17-7, giving Floyd as many wins in 24 games as he had in any of his three-plus seasons as coach of the Chicago Bulls. New Orleans also improved to 7-1 in the second of back-to-back games. "I didn't even realize we'd played that well in back-to-backs," Wesley said. "We didn't get down big and just executed down the stretch." "They shot the ball really well from 3-point range," Warriors coach Eric Musselman said. "Normally when a team is in the second night of a back-to-back, their shots are short and their legs are tired. But with the overall physical strength of this team and their mental toughness, they were able to overcome their fatigue." Clifford Robinson scored 13 points and Nick Van Exel added 12 and eight assists for Golden State, which shot 39 percent (32-of-82) and has lost nine of the last 11 meetings between the teams.
