Game StoryNEW YORK (Ticker) -- Allan Houston, Antonio McDyess and the New York Knicks showed what they can do when mostly healthy. Houston scored nine of his 15 points in the fourth quarter and McDyess added seven of his season-high 15 in the final period as the Knicks rallied to defeat the Denver Nuggets, 95-88, and snap a six-game losing streak. Houston had missed the Knicks' last three games with a sore right knee, while former Nugget McDyess played a season-high 31 minutes in his first start since overcoming a fractured left kneecap that caused him to miss all of last season and the start of this campaign. "I think we are feeling each other out," Houston said. "We had McDyess starting, we had me back, and I think we were trying to get a feel for what we were going to try to do." Keith Van Horn scored 16 points to pace New York, which trailed, 71-64, before Houston started a 10-0 run with a jumper with 10:12 remaining. Houston capped the burst with a 3-pointer that gave the Knicks the lead for good with 8:31 left. "We really played like a team," Van Horn said. "Everybody took the initiative to step up their game. That's what we need to get for this team to win." New York held an one-point lead before Dikembe Mutombo sank 1-of-2 free throws, Houston nailed a jumper, McDyess added a jumper and Frank Williams made a pair from the line for an 87-79 bulge with 3:20 to play. "They got into us half-court defensively and we weren't very sharp," said Nuggets coach Jeff Bzdelik, whose team shot just under 40 percent (32-of-81) from the field. "We seemed to be a step behind. The presence of Mutombo (four blocks) inside really hurt us. We had some opportunities around the rim but we just couldn't finish." New York was without starting power forward Kurt Thomas (sore left knee). Rookie Carmelo Anthony scored 25 points and Voshon Lenard 17 for the Nuggets, who have lost three of their last four games after winning six in a row. "It means a lot to play well in MSG (Madison Square Garden), but when you play hard and lose, it's hard to take that," said Anthony, who made 9-of-24 shots. "Nobody likes losing." Former Knick Marcus Camby added 12 points and 12 rebounds for Denver, which trailed, 59-51, before closing the third quarter on an 18-5 run and taking its biggest lead, 71-64, on a pair of free throws by Ryan Bowen 22 seconds into the fourth period. "We were up in the fourth but they have so many veterans on this team and they were just mentally tougher," Camby said. "They took the lead down the stretch and they just never let it go." The Nuggets favor an up-tempo pace, but they were stymied by the Knicks, managing just eight fast-break points - the same number New York managed. "The way the Knicks played, it is hard to run because they aren't a running team," Bzdelik said. "They just play half-court, they don't hit the offensive boards as soon as the shot goes up - they run back, so they're hard to run against."
