Game StoryLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- An unlikely combination rescued the Los Angeles Lakers from blowing another big lead. Rookie Luke Walton fed Devean George for a critical dunk in the final minute as the Lakers held off the Phoenix Suns, 107-101. Los Angeles has had problems holding fourth-quarter leads in recent games, including Friday's victory over Denver. The Lakers blew a 14-point lead in the final period before Kobe Bryant's jumper at the buzzer provided the 101-99 victory. The Lakers built a lead as big as 18 points before it dwindled in the fourth quarter. Bryant was whistled for a technical for arguing and Shawn Marion's free throw cut the deficit to 102-99 with 1:17 to go. The Suns had a chance to get closer, but Joe Johnson's jumper misfired. The Lakers posted up Walton, who used a nifty bounce pass to find a cutting George, whose easy slam provided a five-point cushion with 43 seconds to go. "He (Walton) facilitates the game because he wants to move the ball and play a team game," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "These players have taken a look and trust him with his decisions, and he certainly played that role today." George scored 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting and added nine rebounds to go with an 18-point, 18-rebound effort from Shaquille O'Neal. George was a major factor down the stretch as Los Angeles fended off a late surge. "They lost momentum again tonight," Jackson said. "I hope maybe something happened and they got an idea of what we are trying to get accomplished." Walton had not played in the previous four games and was on the floor due to Karl Malone's injury. Malone suffered a right knee sprain in the first quarter and did not return. "The doctors told me not to go back out and play, so that is what I did," Malone said. "It's frustrating. I came here to play." Stephon Marbury poured in 18 of his 31 points in the second half for the Suns, who have lost 11 straight road games against the Lakers. Marion added 23 points and 10 rebounds. "I thought we made a few mistakes in the first half," Marion said. "They closed the first half good and that gave them a little more momentum going into the second half."
