Game StoryWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Eddie Jones made sure the Miami Heat continued their dominance over the Washington Wizards. Jones scored 22 points to lift Miami to its second victory over the Wizards this week and its third straight this season, 92-84. "I don't think that we have that team's number," Jones said. "I just think that we came out, we executed and we made shots. If they had made more shots down the stretch, it could have been a different story." Miami defeated Washington on Tuesday, 79-72, in the previous game for both teams. Jones was limited to just 11 points in that contest but was much better in this one. Jones matched his previous game total in the first quarter, when he hit three 3-pointers, and finished 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. "A win on the road shows that this team is growing," Jones said. "To bounce back after a slow start really shows the confidence we're gaining." The Heat have won nine of the past 14 matchups between the teams. Miami's 43 wins against Washington is its most against any opponent. "It's tough to lose to a team three times," Wizards guard Larry Hughes said. "You always want to split or get ahead, and they are ahead of us." Lamar Odom and rookie Dwyane Wade added 17 points apiece for Miami. Wade left with 1:20 remaining due to an apparent wrist injury. Hughes scored 21 points and rookie Jarvis Hayes chipped in 14 for the Wizards, who lost their third straight game. "Well, it's tough to overcome where we are right now," Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said. "It's a major uphill battle and we keep slipping and we keep slipping, but we're clawing and we're climbing." Miami trailed, 78-74, with 7:37 left but held Washington without a field goal the rest of the way, closing with an 18-6 run. "We got out of rhythm and we got out of flow," Hughes said. "We actually got a couple of good looks, but we just didn't make shots." The game was closely contested throughout. Washington led, 28-27, after the first quarter, but Miami outplayed them in the second and were up, 47-44, at halftime. Wizards rookie Steve Blake had perhaps his best game of the season, totaling nine points and a career-high seven assists. But he was unable to set up Washington for a basket in the final minutes. "It's just something we are going to have to look at, watch film and realize why we couldn't put it in the basket," Blake said. "It was either good defense or we weren't executing, or whatever it is." The Wizards' only points in the final four minutes came on two free throws by Hughes with 1:20 to go. The shorthanded Heat were in the penalty and fouled Hughes intentionally to stop play after Wade went down. "We have to find what it is and correct it because we are in games, we just aren't finishing them," Blake said.
