Game StoryATLANTA (Ticker) -- Richard Hamilton took over in the fourth quarter to help the Detroit Pistons snap a four-game road losing streak. Hamilton scored 14 of his 28 points in the final period as the Pistons rallied for an 87-84 triumph over the Atlanta Hawks. With the shot clock winding down and Detroit clinging to a 83-81 lead, Hamilton hit a bank shot from the left elbow with 1:05 remaining. "The guys did a good job of getting me the ball and letting me go," Hamilton said. "They got me the ball in scoring situations." Atlanta failed to score on its next three possessions while the Pistons padded their lead with a pair of free throws. Stephen Jackson's 3-pointer seconds before the final buzzer capped the scoring. The Hawks had a 71-65 lead with just under 9 1/2 minutes left, but Hamilton personally outscored them, 10-2, over the next four minutes to put Detroit in front, 75-73. "I thought we did a good job of on him for most of the game," Hawks coach Terry Stotts said. "He made some good shots against good defense." Chauncey Billups added 19 points for the Pistons, who have won three of their last four games. Jason Terry and Shareef Abdur-Rahim each had scored 20 points for Atlanta. Abdur-Rahim also grabbed 10 rebounds, but the Hawks lost for the 17th time in the last 20 meetings with Detroit. "Even with them making tough shots, we were still in position to win the game, we just didn't get it done down the stretch," Terry said. Both teams were looking to bounce back from losses. Atlanta was blown out by New Orleans, 109-79, while Detroit was beaten at home by New Jersey, 82-79. Atlanta wore its neon green, 1970s-era vintage jerseys and at the start of the game, the Hawks turned back the clock to the era when guards Pete Maravich and Lou Hudson excited fans with their scoring exploits. It was Dion Glover and Terry who provided the offensive punch for much of the game. Glover scored all of his 10 points in the first quarter on 4-of-5 shooting as Atlanta took a 26-23. Terry had 10 in the third, helping the Hawks maintain a three-point cushion. "My shots just didn't fall in the fourth," Terry said. "I think I should have been a little more aggressive, but we just didn't pull it out." Detroit appeared out of sync offensively early in the game but settled down in the second half behind Hamilton's sharp shooting. "We had to fight back," Billups said. "We had control early, but in the second half they came back fighting. It was a great game to win in a nip-and-tuck situation."
