Game Story

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Kevin Garnett and the Minnesota Timberwolves made sure this game was not decided by a last-second shot. Garnett scored 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Timberwolves cruised to a 104-86 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics. Ronald Murray's buzzer-beater helped give Seattle an 89-87 victory at Minnesota on November 11. "We talked on defense (this time)," Garnett said. "We were aware of shooters." Murray scored 29 points in that contest but was held to eight in the rematch. "No disrespect to Flip, but he was taking the league by surprise about how well his skill level is and how well he can score," Garnett said. "We were aware of him and we knew Ray (Allen) was going to shoot the ball and we communicated as far as guys were." The Timberwolves opened the fourth quarter with a 13-4 run, stretching their lead to 85-69 lead with 8:08 left. Seattle got no closer than 12 points the rest of the way. "We are all in tune with the game," Garnett said. "We are all productive. Tonight's focus was to pick up where we left off and learn from our mistakes and just get back on the horse, so to speak." Sam Cassell added 20 points and Fred Hoiberg had 14 as Minnesota snapped a five-game road losing streak against the SuperSonics. Rashard Lewis led Seattle with 16 points and Allen had 15 but shot just 5-of-22 from the field. Allen was playing his second game of the season after spending the first 25 on the injured list recovering from ankle surgery. "It was a struggle for me," Allen admitted. "They were sending a couple of guys at me, I had to exert a lot more of my power and I was tapping into my will, and I hadn't done that this season. A lot of things went wrong out there tonight that started with me." Seattle entered the game as the best 3-point shooting team in the NBA at 39.8 percent but made just 5-of-28 from the arc and 36 percent (31-of-85) overall. Allen hit 1-of-8 3-pointers. "I missed a lot of easy shots that usually go in, and that kind of set the tone," Allen said. "I played 35 minutes and I was tired for 30 of those minutes. It took my legs a little bit." Minnesota shot 52 percent (43-of-82) en route to its seventh win in eight games. The Timberwolves lead the NBA with 12 road wins. The SuperSonics had not lost to Minnesota at home since January 19, 2001 and still boast a 24-5 home record in the series. "I thought that it was one of those games where everybody in the game played well tonight," Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders said. "Our bench had good, solid play." Seattle's Brent Barry, who returned to the starting lineup after missing three games with a strained left hip flexor, contributed 10 points and five assists. Rookie Luke Ridnour chipped in 11 points and three assists off the bench for the SuperSonics.
