Game StoryEAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- It took Damon Stoudamire and the Portland Trail Blazers two months, but they finally secured their first road victory of the campaign. Stoudamire sank a key pair of free throws with 8.4 seconds left to help the Trail Blazers edge the New Jersey Nets, 91-87, and post their first win in 11 tries away from the Rose Garden this season. Rasheed Wallace scored 16 points and Zach Randolph added 14 and 13 rebounds for Portland, which had lost its previous 13 regular-season road contests since beating Houston on April 8. "Everyone pretty much stepped out on the floor, gave us performances and helped us win that game," Portland coach Maurice Cheeks said. "We could've been playing the YMCA tonight. We were just trying to get a win." After the game, the dry erase board in Portland's locker room read, "Goodbye, BIG monkey!" "It felt like two tons off my back," Randolph said of the win. "It felt great." New Jersey trailed, 87-78, with 1:19 left before storming within 89-87 on a 3-pointer by Jason Kidd with 10 seconds to play. But Stoudamire, who had scored just four points on 2-of-11 shooting, calmly swished a pair from the line just under two seconds later to snap the Nets' six-game home winning streak. "I just wanted to step up there and hit those," Stoudamire said. "I knew if I hit them, I knew it would almost be impossible for them to win." Richard Jefferson scored 24 points, Kenyon Martin added 19 and Kidd 13, seven rebounds and seven assists for New Jersey, which allowed Portland to shoot 51 percent (39-of-76). "I thought it was disappointing," Nets coach Byron Scott said. "I think tonight we ran up against a team that wanted to win a little more than we did." The Nets also were outrebounded, 44-28, and outscored in the paint, 42-34. "We just didn't seem to have it tonight, and I think the stat sheet tells the whole story," Scott said. "We allowed them to shoot 51 percent, and they outrebounded us by 16." The Nets had held a 50-42 lead at the break and stretched it to 62-50 on a bank shot by Martin with 6:54 remaining in the third quarter before Portland went on a 12-2 run over the next 3 1/2 minutes. "After we got down 12 points, we talked about it, (to) not stop playing," Cheeks said. "We fought our way back in the game." New Jersey entered the fourth quarter with a 72-70 edge but was held to just six points before Martin's bank shot with 1:15 left made it 87-80. The Nets' prior basket had been a finger roll by Kidd with 8:19 remaining that forged a 76-76 tie. "They all played well in the fourth quarter and gave a lot of energy," said Nets guard Kerry Kittles, who scored 11 points. "They came out and played some pretty good defense and they contained us pretty well."
