Game StoryNEW YORK (Ticker) -- In their last home game, the New York Knicks were embarrassed by a former player. Upon their return, the Madison Square Garden crowd witnessed a totally different team. Red-hot Keith Van Horn scored 22 points as the Knicks rolled to a spirited 102-73 victory over the Miami Heat, their season-high fourth straight win. "It was another game where we played great defense, that's what won it for us," Van Horn said. "You feel as active as we are on the defensive end and no matter what you do offensively that it will produce some wins." A week ago, the Knicks lost to Minnesota and Latrell Sprewell, who scored 31 points and trash-talked owner James Dolan in his return to the Garden. But New York went on the road and won three straight games. "I think they all understand that management is solidly behind them in wanting to win," Knicks president Isiah Thomas said before the game. "Here in New York we have to be the best. Our fans expect that, I expect that and our players have responded to being the best." Showing a newfound confidence, the Knicks have won their last three games by at least 20 points. They had not won by that many in any game before the streak. "It's about what we are doing on the defensive end," Van Horn said. "We're suffocating teams. Our big men have done a great job of contesting shots." Shandon Anderson added 21 points and Thomas chipped in 14 before fouling out in the fourth quarter for New York. New York native Lamar Odom scored 19 points and Caron Butler contributed 10 for the Heat, who lost to the Knicks for the second time in four days. "I'm very disappointed on what were able to do game-plan-wise coming off the other night," Heat coach Stan Van Gundy said. "They just pounded us." New York held a 15-12 lead in the first quarter before going on a 17-2 run that built the advantage to 32-14 with 9:47 left in the first half. "We are not potent enough to get down that much in the first quarter," Odom said. "They looked fluent on offense. We can't hit as well as we couldn't defend today that was the whole game." Since its last defeat, New York has shown more hustle and energy on the court. This game was no different as the Knicks outrebounded Miami, 42-28. Allan Houston scored just 13 points but dove on the floor after loose balls twice, once in the second half when the Knicks already had a safe lead. Frank Williams made his home debut as the starting point guard, after making his first career start in the last meeting between the teams on December 27. Williams scored just six points but had seven assists. "I think adding Frank to the lineup has made a tremendous difference," Knicks coach Don Chaney said. "He's pushing the ball up the floor and he's creating for other guys."
