Game StoryEAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Jason Kidd and the New Jersey Nets used a big third-quarter run to continue rolling. Kidd scored nine of his 23 points in the third quarter as the Nets pulled away for their 10th win in 13 games, an 88-70 victory over the Golden State Warriors. A jumper by Jason Richardson with 3:17 left in the third period cut the Warriors' deficit to 60-55. But New Jersey closed the quarter with an 11-1 spurt to build a 71-56 cushion. Golden State never mounted a serious challenge in the fourth quarter as Kidd sat out. "Jason Kidd played like an All-Star," Warriors coach Eric Musselman said. "In the first half, we did a pretty good job of controlling the tempo and not letting their transition game get going. As soon as Kidd turned up the intensity, he changed the complexion of this basketball game." Kenyon Martin added 17 points to help New Jersey bounce back from Monday's 91-87 loss to Portland, which recorded its first road win of the season. Richardson finished with 16 points for the Warriors, who have lost three in a row overall and six straight at New Jersey. "They really did a good job," said Warriors forward Cliff Robinson, who had 14 points. "I thought Jason was really aggressive. They were trying to make plays for him and he got them going." Golden State punished New Jersey inside and outside early and built a 23-16 lead after the opening quarter. The Warriors outscored the Nets, 14-4, in the paint while Robinson scored 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting, all on jumpers. "We got off to a good start, but we didn't sustain it, and that's been hurting us," Robinson said. "They made plays and we just didn't get it done tonight." New Jersey went to a zone defense in the second quarter and turned the momentum. The switch prevented the Warriors from getting the ball inside and forced them to settle for long jumpers. The misses resulted in long rebounds and fast-break opportunities for New Jersey. "We came out a little flat in the first quarter and gave up a couple of dunks," Martin said. "We picked it up and started to get stops. We got up and down the court and hit shots." Golden State had just three turnovers in the first quarter but 13 thereafter. "We knew exactly what they were going to do but against a team like this you have to take care of the ball," Warriors center Erick Dampier said. Consecutive 3-pointers by Martin late in the third quarter gave New Jersey its largest lead, 86-64. "I thought the second half we were much better on the defensive end," Nets coach Byron Scott said. "We didn't allow them to get too many easy buckets and we were able to get our fast break to move a little bit." The game was a homecoming for New Jersey native Troy Murphy, but he had just three points and three rebounds in 20 minutes. Kidd, a Bay Area native, added seven assists and five steals. "I always play my best against them because the game is televised back at home," Kidd said.
