Game StoryCHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Boston Celtics got to the United Center late and started slowly but finished with a flurry. Paul Pierce scored 14 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter as the Celtics staged a furious rally and posted an 88-77 triumph over the Chicago Bulls. Mike James added 18 points and Walter McCarty had 11 for the Celtics, who did not get to the arena until two hours before game time. Boston trailed, 52-40, midway through the third quarter, but Pierce got hot and carried the Celtics to just their fourth win in 20 visits to the United Center. "We kind of got a little out of sync, spending just 45 minutes at the hotel and then rushing to the arena," James said. "Then in the first half, we seemed fatigued. But at halftime we got it together and discovered some energy." "It affected me in the first quarter, I was kind of dragging," Pierce added. "I was trying to catch my wind. It was a little hard in the first quarter, I was trying to get my legs and wind back." Playing for the third time in four nights, Boston overcame 37 percent (28-for-76) shooting from the field. James made 6-of-11 shots, but the Celtics' other starters combined to go 16-of-47. "Mike is a tough kid and hits big shots," Celtics coach Jim O'Brien said. Chicago led 65-63 with 9:24 to go in the game, but James , who was 4-of-5 from the field in the fourth quarter - drained a 3-pointer to trigger an 18-5 burst. James had the first 12 points and Pierce the last six in the run. "(James) was big in the fourth quarter," Pierce said. "I call him 'Fourth Quarter Mike,' and he responded. I told him I needed him to be big, and he responded." For Chicago coach Scott Skiles, fourth-quarter collapses are becoming too commonplace. "We have points in the game where we just look flat out of gas," Skiles said. "I don't know how else to say it. We don't have the stamina in some games to play through it." Jamal Crawford had 16 points for Chicago, which was seeking consecutive wins for just the third time this season. The Bulls fell to 5-12 at home. Chicago appeared poised to make quick work of Boston, scoring the game's first seven points. After the Celtics battled back, Eddy Curry had a breakaway dunk to spark a 20-2 burst for the Bulls. Eddie Robinson capped the run with a 17-footer with 2:23 to go in the first half. After halftime, Boston shot 51.5 percent (17-of-33) from the field while limiting Chicago to 22.5 percent (9-of-40). The Bulls missed all seven of their 3-point attempts and 7-of-22 free throws. "The second half was very unacceptable," Bulls guard Kendall Gill said. "In all my years of playing ball, I have never seen or been part of a team that cold. It was not just one person, it was everybody."
