Game Story

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Shane Battier started to produce just in time to help the Memphis Grizzlies continue their overtime success. Battier scored six of his 14 points in the second overtime and Stromile Swift made a key block in the final minute as the Grizzlies rallied for a 115-113 victory over the Golden State Warriors. Held to six points and seven rebounds in regulation, Battier gave Memphis the lead for good with a basket with 1:07 left in the second overtime and Swift added a jumper just under a minute later for a 112-108 lead. "We've played well in overtimes this year," said Battier, who also grabbed 10 rebounds. "We feel if we get an extra period, we're still fresh because we play so many players that we feel we can make plays to win the game." With the Grizzlies holding a 113-110 advantage with 10 seconds to go, Swift blocked a 3-pointer by Brian Cardinal. "He tried to pump fake me, I didn't go for it," Swift said. "Just a good defensive effort by the whole team and we were able to get the stop. That's what we pride ourselves on is getting stops at the end of the games. And that's what we did." James Posey gathered in the loose ball following the block and was fouled. He converted 1-of-2 from the line before Jason Richardson's driving layup with less than five seconds remaining got Golden State to 114-112. Swift again made 1-of-2 free throws with three seconds to go. On Golden State's next possession, Mike Dunleavy Jr. was fouled and made his first free throw. He missed the second intentionally but the Warriors could not run down the ball and send the game to a third extra session. Mike Miller scored 24 points and Pau Gasol had 17 before fouling out as the Grizzlies won an overtime contest for the second straight game. Memphis is 4-0 in overtime this season. "With us, we were happy (to go to overtime), we had seven guys in doubles and then we went small with Posey and Battier, two of our better defenders," Memphis coach Hubie Brown said. "And then Battier comes up big with the shots that were critical shots." Jason Williams contributed 15 points and 12 assists and Swift finished with 14 points for Memphis, which has won four of five games since a seven-game losing streak. The Grizzlies have won consecutive road games for the first time since taking three straight from November 29-December 3. "During the last four games, we have started to rely on each other and have started to hit some shots - that has been the difference," Battier said. Brown picked up his 47th victory as Grizzlies coach, making him the all-time winningest coach in franchise history. Erick Dampier set season highs with 23 points and seven blocks. He also pulled down 22 rebounds for his first 20-20 game as a Warrior. "The Grizzlies do not really have a true center, so we were able to really pound our game in there and I was able to get a lot of my points off offensive rebounds," Dampier said. Van Exel also scored 23 points and Richardson finished with 21, but Golden State lost for the eighth time in its last nine games. "It is a difficult loss because we just came off of losing seven straight, and we wanted to win some games here at home," Dunleavy said. "All you can do is try again tomorrow night." Richardson dunked with eight seconds left in the first overtime to tie it, 108-108. After Dampier made a block on Lorenzen Wright, Dunleavy grabbed the rebound and dribbled upcourt before passing to Richardson for the slam. The Grizzlies closed the fourth quarter with a 12-3 run capped by Gasol's two free throws with 38 seconds left that knotted it, 94-94. Golden State missed three baskets in the last 30 seconds of regulation, including Van Exel's desperation 3-pointer as time expired.
