Game StoryMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Sam Cassell's fourth-quarter heroics were more than enough to help the Minnesota Timberwolves extend their home winning streak to nine games. Cassell scored nine of his 22 points in the final period to lift the Timberwolves to a 97-90 triumph over the shorthanded New Orleans Hornets. "In the fourth quarter, (Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders) runs a lot of plays through Kevin (Garnett) and myself," Cassell said. "I'm just fortunate to make shots." The final period had 14 lead changes until consecutive jumpers by Cassell helped Minnesota build a 93-90 cushion with 1:02 remaining. Steve Smith missed a jumper on the Hornets' ensuing possession, and Kevin Garnett responded with a jumper of his own and was fouled with 18 seconds left. Hornets coach Tim Floyd, believing Garnett traveled on the play, ran onto the court and began arguing with officials. He was promptly ejected from the game. "It felt like we didn't get a break down the stretch," Floyd said. "The double-dribble on the deflection, and then the traveling late. ... From my standpoint, I thought it was a travel, but I'll have to go back and look at the film." Cassell made the technical foul shot for a 96-90 lead before Garnett missed his free throw. Garnett finished with 29 points and 15 rebounds while Latrell Sprewell was the only other Minnesota player to score in double figures with 15 points. "If you look at our last three, four, five games, that's how it's been," Garnett said. "It's been these bar-fight type of games that come down to the last three or four minutes. I think that's our edge, that we focus in a little better than the other teams." The Hornets were without injured guard David Wesley and lost star point guard Baron Davis, who sprained his left ankle with 5:21 remaining while attempting a jumper. Davis scored 25 points. Darrell Armstrong started for Wesley and scored 18 points and Robert Traylor added 11 for the Hornets, who have lost three consecutive road games. "I thought we played well as a team, and we can't do anything about what the officiating is going to be like," Armstrong said. "We've got to take positives and try to get ready for Wednesday." Minnesota guard Troy Hudson made his return to the lineup after missing the past 11 games with a sprained ankle. Hudson finished with six points in 15 minutes.
