Game StoryTORONTO (Ticker) -- Sam Cassell always has been known as a clutch player. This could be the season that he is known as an All-Star. Cassell scored 14 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter as the Minnesota Timberwolves remained red-hot with a 108-97 victory over the Toronto Raptors. Since being selected by Houston in the first round in 1993, Cassell has gained the reputation as as player that is known to step up in crunch time. But the feisty point guard never has made an All-Star team despite being in the upper echelon of players at his position. "I think I've been playing like an All-Star for four or five years," Cassell said. "I don't strive for it; if it happens, it happens. I was doing basically the same thing in the East, but Eastern Conference basketball is not as fast as the West." Cassell also has the support of Raptors guard Milt Palacio. "Personally, I think he's an All-Star and it's tough to stop him when he gets his rhythm going," Palacio said. In his first season with the Timberwolves, Cassell is having his best statistical season. His numbers were pretty good in this one as he went 11-of-19 from the field overall and also handed out 13 assists. Cassell continued to show his worth. He scored seven points in a 12-2 fourth-quarter run that turned a tie game into a 96-86 lead with 2:31 remaining. Kevin Garnett was his usual outstanding self as he collected 28 points and 11 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who won for the seventh time in eight games. Donyell Marshall scored 22 points to lead Toronto, which lost its third straight game without star Vince Carter, who is sidelined with a right quadriceps injury. The Raptors battled back from a 14-point second-half deficit, tying the contest at 84-84 with 5:56 remaining on a driving layup by Palacio, who scored a season-high 18 points after being activated from the injured list before the game. Cassell gave the Timberwolves the lead for good 29 seconds later, drilling a 3-pointer from the top of the key. Troy Hudson made a 3-pointer and Garnett two free throws, pushing the advantage to 92-84 4:09 to play. Toronto got no closer than six points thereafter. "In the first half, we didn't play any defense," Garnett said. "In the second half, we played some defense, we were talking and communicating. We never looked back when we took the lead." While Cassell and Garnett both came up big, Latrell Sprewell also was a factor as he scored 16 of his 24 points in the second half. "When your main three get 82 of your 108 (points) it puts a lot of pressure on the other team defensively," Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders said. Sprewell netted 13 points in the third quarter, when the Timberwolves made 13-of-20 shots and turned a three-point deficit into a 74-68 lead.
