Game StoryDALLAS (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Lakers won at American Airlines Center last month to give them the best road record in the Western Conference. They lost in their return, securing their longest road losing streak in 30 years. Michael Finley scored 31 points and Antawn Jamison tied a season high with 26 points as the Dallas Mavericks pulled away for a 106-87 victory over the stumbling Lakers, who have lost nine straight on the road. Los Angeles was 6-3 on the road after defeating Dallas here on December 4 but has not won away from Staples Center since, recording the longest road slide since the team moved from Minneapolis following the 1959-60 season. The Lakers' season has taken a turn for the worse due to injuries to Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant and Karl Malone. Los Angeles has dropped nine of 13 overall after losing to Dallas for just the fifth time in 20 meetings under coach Phil Jackson. "Without Shaq in there, they are a totally different team," Dallas coach Don Nelson said. "I was happy with the way the game ended up. That's how I was hoping it would end up. It was an opportunity to play the Lakers when they were beat up and injured and we took advantage of it and got a win." The Mavericks had a 12-point lead at halftime, but the Lakers came out strong in the second half, using an early 14-2 run to forge a 65-65 tie with 8:01 remaining. Slava Medvedenko scored seven points during the stretch as Los Angeles seemed to reclaim momentum. Dallas wasted little time reclaiming the lead, scoring 24 of the final 28 points in the quarter. "They just crushed us in the last five minutes of that quarter," Jackson said. "We just had no answer. We couldn't find a way to score, couldn't find a way to get second opportunities and defensively we fell apart." Jamison scored the first six points for the Mavericks and had eight overall during the decisive run. "After the first couple of minutes of the third quarter, I think we did an excellent job as far as making it difficult for them to get any kind of easy shot," said Jamison, who made 10-of-13 shots. "That's what we want to do defensively and offensively just continue to move the ball and feed whoever is hot." Finley and Antoine Walker added seven points apiece in the final eight minutes of the third, giving Dallas an 89-69 cushion entering the final period. "Luckily, after they tied the game up we got our focus back," Walker said. "(The Lakers) are a team right now that struggling for road wins obviously. More importantly, we had to protect our home court." Walker collected 23 points, nine rebounds and seven assists and Dirk Nowitzki had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Mavericks, who have won a season-high six in a row. "Winning games is key and more importantly it gives us a chance to kind of find a rhythm that we have aspired for," said Dallas guard Steve Nash, who had eight assists. "We are getting closer and closer toward that." Dallas dominated every phase of the game, outscoring Los Angeles in the paint, 50-28, and 29-4 on the fast break. The Mavericks had a 51-36 rebounding edge and scored 18 points off 16 offensive rebounds. Devean George scored 24 points and Kareem Rush and Medvedenko added 18 apiece, but Los Angeles got little form its bench, which only had 14 points on 4-of-21 shooting. "We got the kind of shots we wanted from those guys we put in," Jackson said. "There will be nights like that and we just have to look at the positive side of this that Devean George played well."
