Game Story

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Tracy McGrady's big toe is feeling just fine. Just ask the Washington Wizards. McGrady scored 39 points in a terrific all-around game to lead the Orlando Magic to a 104-100 victory over the Washington Wizards McGrady made 14-of-28 shots and collected nine rebounds and five assists just two days after being unable to play in the second half at Cleveland due to a sprained left toe. "I feel like I am in a zone," McGrady said. "I have that swagger back, a lot of confidence and my shots are falling." Juwan Howard scored 21 points and Drew Gooden added 15 for the Magic, who shot 63 percent in the first half to seize control, taking a 60-46 lead. Orlando jumped out to a 12-2 lead, with all its points from McGrady. "(McGrady) got us off to a good start, then he closed the game for us late," said Orlando coach Johnny Davis. "That is what he is capable of doing and he did it for us tonight." "We didn't do anything to make them feel uncomforTable in the first half," Washington coach Eddie Jordan said. "They controlled us from the beginning. There comes a time when you have to rely on your half-court defense. It hasn't been good enough." The Wizards pulled within five points in the fourth quarter but got no closer thanks to McGrady, who scored 13 points in the period. "Both teams needed the win," McGrady said, "but I imposed my will on the game. I feel like I am playing the type of basketball that I played last year. My shot is a lot better and my knee is healthy." Even when McGrady took a breather, there was plenty of offense to go around. In the second quarter, Gooden scored nine points over a five-minute stretch with McGrady on the bench as Orlando increased its 10-point lead to 53-38. "They rattled us," Wizards forward Kwame Brown said. "Tracy will get his points, but we have to stop other guys from getting theirs." Larry Hughes scored 21 points, Juan Dixon added 20 and Brown 15 and a season-high 15 rebounds for the Wizards, who slipped to 1-2 on a season-high seven-game homestand. Brown recorded his sixth double-double of the season.
