Game StoryLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Lakers welcomed back Shaquille O'Neal and Rick Fox and used a fourth-quarter run to win their second straight game. Gary Payton scored 24 points to cover for rusty returns by O'Neal and Fox as the Lakers defeated the Seattle SuperSonics, 96-82. "I'm just glad they're (O'Neal and Fox) here," Payton said. "We can start at ground zero right now, but I'm just glad they're here." O'Neal played 18 minutes and had seven points and five rebounds after missing 12 games with a strained right calf. Los Angeles was 5-7 without O'Neal. Ironically, the superstar center injured himself against Seattle on January 2. He played in the first and third quarters of this one and sat out the other periods. "The first half, he had trouble locating the ball a couple of times on rebounds," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "No rebounds in the first half. Second half, he had five. He just started reacting better to the game." Fox saw his first action of the season, scoring two points in eight minutes. He had not played since suffering a torn ligament in his left foot against Minnesota on April 27, 2003. He was activated from the injured list before Saturday's game but did not play. "I'm excited to be back. ... The last three days have been the most difficult because I was dressed," Fox said. "Dress rehearsal with the costume, the layup line going well, but not playing and getting in the game at Utah stretched out the last three (days)." "Shaq will play himself back into his form," Lakers guard Kobe Bryant said. "I was happy to see Rick out there. Rick hasn't been on the floor in a long, long time." Los Angeles is still without forward Karl Malone, who suffered a sprained right knee ligament on December 21 and will be out through the All-Star break. Bryant, who returned from a sprained shoulder Saturday, added 14 points for the Lakers. Rashard Lewis scored 22 points for Seattle, which has lost its loast four visits to Los Angeles. Ray Allen recorded his third career triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. "We didn't win," Allen said. "It would have been great to celebrate it if we had won the game. It's like a ship passing in the night - you just see it and it goes." Ronald Murray's jumper gave Seattle a 72-71 lead with 10:30 remaining before the Lakers rattled off 12 straight points to build a 83-72 lead with 5:55 to go. Sonics coach Nate McMillan received a technical foul with 10:25 left in the second quarter. Angered over what he thought was a missed call, McMillan attempted to steal the ball from Bryant as he recovered a loose ball on the sideline.
