Game Story

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Mike Dunleavy, Jr. helped the Golden State Warriors take control early but wasn't around late to see his team finish one of its best defensive efforts of the season. Dunleavy scored six of his 15 points in a game-breaking second-quarter run as the Warriors routed the Chicago Bulls, 101-81, for their third straight win. The 6-9 forward drained a pair of 3-pointers in a 16-2 run that gave the Warriors a 40-22 lead with five minutes before halftime. However, Dunleavy fell going for a layup with 7:56 left in the third quarter. He was helped off the court and did not return. "I came down on another guy and all my weight was on my left ankle, and then I just rolled it over," said Dunleavy, whose X-rays were negative. "It feels all right right now, but we won't know more until tomorrow. Hopefully I will be able to play (Monday against Memphis). I would be surprised if I wouldn't be able to." Golden State led by 20 points at intermission and took its largest lead, 79-54, on a 3-pointer by rookie Mickael Pietrus with 2:08 to go in the third quarter. Speedy Claxton and Jason Richardson also scored 15 points each and Erick Dampier added 13 and 10 rebounds as the Warriors beat the Bulls for the fourth meeting in a row overall and five straight times at The Arena in Oakland. Dating to last season, Golden State is 20-4 in its last 24 home games against the Eastern Conference. Golden State placed seven players in double figures as it held Chicago to one of the lowest point totals for an opponent this season. "Every starter was in double digits and we had contributions off the bench," Warriors coach Eric Musselman said. "Defensively, we did a phenomenal job. We shot well from 3-point range (7-of-17), and then were able to hold them to just 34 percent shooting, which just shows a strong overall performance." Jamal Crawford scored 16 points and Chris Jefferies contributed 12 for Chicago, which dropped its seventh consecutive road game. The Bulls fell to 0-4 on their seven-game trip and fell to 5-18 away from home this season. "Right from the beginning of the game, we just did not show up," Bulls coach Scott Skiles said. "The game clips that we saw at halftime were very embarrassing with our lack of execution. It looked like we just did not care." Chicago has lost 24 straight road games vs. Western Conference foes. "We have the worst record in the NBA. That should be enough to motivate us every night and play like we are," said Bulls forward Antonio Davis, who was held to zero points and six rebounds in 23 minutes. Playing against Claxton, rookie Kirk Hinrich managed only three points before fouling out midway through the third period. Cliff Robinson snapped a 14-14 tie with a driving hook with 2:48 left in the first quarter, igniting a 10-2 spurt that gave the Warriors the lead for good.
