Game StoryAUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- What goes around comes around for Chauncey Billups and the Detroit Pistons. Billups' two free throws with four tenths of a second remaining left lifted the Pistons to a controversial 80-78 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. From the left corner, Billups went up for a shot against the smaller Earl Watson, who appeared to have his arms straight up while Billups initiated slight contact and Pau Gasol blocked the shot. However, referee Courtney Kirkland signaled a foul on Watson, his sixth, and Billups sank both free throws. The call comes just eight days after Billups was whistled for a dubious charging call on the last possession of an 80-79 loss in Minnesota that nullified his game-winning basket. "It's about time," Billups said. "I was reminiscing about Minnesota on Wednesday. It wasn't that much contact. They thought I was going to take a fadeaway. I gave him (Watson) a headfake, got him in the air and jumped into him." "First of all, the replay shows there was no foul," said Memphis coach Hubie Brown. "Earl Watson went straight up and Pau went over the top. It wasn't close, not even close." Richard Hamilton led the Pistons with 20 points and Ben Wallace had 13 rebounds, four steals and four blocks, helping the Pistons continue their dominance at home against the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies last beat the Pistons at Auburn Hills on November 30, 1997. Detroit appeared to have the game in hand after Wallace's basket with 3:17 left made it 78-67. However, Memphis stormed back with an 11-0 run, tying the game on Gasol's three-point play with 53 seconds remaining. "We settled for some really bad jump shots," Detroit coach Larry Brown said. "In the fourth quarter, we pulled up, shot a three; they came down and got to the rim." "I had a lot of wide-open looks tonight," Hamilton said. "I just didn't knock them down in the fourth (1-of-8)." After Billups missed a jumper, the Grizzlies had a chance to take the lead, but Bonzi Wells' airball from the top of the key went out of bounds with 6.4 seconds on the clock. "Bonzi gets hit on the wrist and they get the ball out of bounds," Brown said. "The got the call, we didn't. Unfortunately, the video proves us right both times." Memphis led by nine early in the game, but Detroit used a 10-0 second-quarter run to lead, 42-38, at the half. Detroit's biggest lead was 12 with 5:36 to play. Gasol led the the suddenly struggling Grizzlies with 18 points and 10 rebounds. After a franchise-record eight-game winning streak, Memphis has lost three in a row. "It was a very tough call with four tenths of a second," Gasol said. "We made a great run, It was good defense on the last play. It's part of the game. Hopefully the way we played the last five minutes will regroup us." Grizzlies guard Mike Miller missed his second consecutive game with back spasms.
