Game Story

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Neither Glenn Robinson nor Eric Snow had much success slowing Vince Carter. Carter scored 15 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter as the Toronto Raptors pulled away from the Philadelphia 76ers, 93-80, for just their third win in 10 games. Donyell Marshall added 15 points and 14 rebounds and Jerome Moiso chipped in season highs of 10 and 11 for the Raptors, who took the series with the 76ers for the third time in four seasons. Carter had 18 points through three quarters against Robinson, helping Toronto take a 67-62 edge. The All-Star opened the final period with a jumper and, after Marshall scored on a tip, added another basket and a 3-pointer before Jalen Rose's technical free throw gave the Raptors a 77-62 cushion with 9:20 remaining. "It was just attacking, making something happen," Carter said. "You have the leading scoring in the league (Allen Iverson) on their side who can get to the free-throw line like he can do. You just have to attack, get easy plays, try to get layups, limit them to one shot and things like that." "I think Vince's last four games have been really good," Raptors coach Kevin O'Neill said. "If he continues to play at that kind of level, we'll be an effective basketball team. He didn't play just on the offensive end. He had his hands on a lot of balls (on defense)." Philadelphia, which had Snow guard Carter down the stretch, could not get within single digits thereafter. "We talk about defending the basketball and accepting the responsibility of guarding your own man," Sixers coach Randy Ayers said. "We broke down in that area tonight. We always seem to be helping someone who is guarding the ball, and you can't do that at this level consistently and win games." Iverson collected 36 points, eight assists and six rebounds for the Sixers, who have dropped 10 of 13. "We need something. I just don't want to get a whole bunch of stuff started," Iverson said. "'Cause it's bad right now, and then me running my mouth only makes things worse. I just know that something has to be done. I don't know if it's a trade or switching the lineups and playing different people, but obviously, something needs to be done." The Raptors limited the Sixers to 37 percent shooting (31-of-83), including 1-of-11 from the arc. Robinson scored 18 points and Kenny Thomas added 15 and 12 rebounds for Philadelphia, which made just 17-of-29 free throws. Iverson was 11-of-18 from the line. "When I was in Milwaukee and we were winning, we knew we were going to come out and win," Robinson said. "Right now, I don't see that attitude. It seems like a lot of people's faces are looking like, 'If we come out and win ...' "If you have that winning edge, you already know you are going to come out and win. You already have that bounce and that juice that you are going to go out and win. We don't have that right now and we have to get back to that." Raptors rookie Chris Bosh twisted his left ankle 45 seconds into the second half and did not return. He scored 10 points. "(It feels) a lot better," Bosh said. "It happens, but it's all right. I'm just going to see how it goes. I'm not going to rest it, but at the same time, I'm not going try to take too much of a rest."
