Game StoryMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The greatness of Kevin Garnett allows Fred Hoiberg and Trenton Hassell to win games for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Hoiberg scored eight of his 10 points in the fourth quarter and Hassell limited LeBron James to 14 points as the Timberwolves rolled to their 14th straight home win, a 103-92 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Garnett was his usual spectacular self, making yet another case for his first MVP award with 35 points and 12 rebounds. But his presence turns complementary players like Hoiberg and Hassell into pivotal contributors. "We were in a groove with Freddie and some of the guys coming off the bench," Garnett said. "The guys did a good job of rebounding and were active on the defensive end." As Garnett was double-teamed in the post, Hoiberg floated free on the perimeter and made all four of his shots. He sank two 3-pointers and a jumper in the final period, when Minnesota pulled away. "Once I got it, there was no hesitation," Hoiberg said. "I just rose up and knocked it down. That's what my role is." With Garnett, Latrell Sprewell and Sam Cassell carrying the offensive load, Hassell concentrates on defense. He shadowed James and forced the league's top rookie into 6-of-18 shooting while holding him six points below his average. "Trenton and Spree did a good job on him," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said. "They put a lot of ball pressure on him." "I think Hassell did a good job defensively on LeBron," Cavaliers coach Paul Silas said. "He will learn." Sprewell had 24 points and seven assists and Cassell added 12 and 11 for Minnesota, which shot 49 percent (41-of-84) from the field and committed just nine turnovers. Jeff McInnis scored 21 points, Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 18 and Carlos Boozer 17 for Cleveland, which has lost two in a row, stalling its playoff push. A 3-pointer by James pulled the Cavaliers into an 82-82 tie with 9:07 left before Hoiberg and Sprewell combined to score Minnesota's next 15 points. Jumpers by Hoiberg and Sprewell made it 91-85 with 5:55 to go. McInnis answered with a 3-pointer, but Hoiberg and Sprewell drilled 3-pointers for a 97-88 bulge with 3:48 left. "We couldn't find Hoiberg and Sprewell and they buried a couple of big threes and that was the ballgame," Silas said. Garnett entered the NBA from high school nine years ago, just as James did last year. Garnett has become of of the top players in the NBA, a path James seems to be on. "I think the crowd in Minnesota was anxious to see LeBron," Garnett said. "Everyone calls it hype, but he's lived up to everything. I think he's built his own hype. But he's a fact, not a fictional character. Everything he's done has made his hype."
