Game Story

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- The New Jersey Nets are making winning look easy under coach Lawrence Frank. Jason Kidd had 18 points and 13 assists and fellow All-Star Kenyon Martin added 18 and 15 rebounds as the Nets remained unbeaten in six games under Frank with a 120-99 rout of the Orlando Magic. Frank has had an impressive start, becoming the first coach in NBA history to win each of his first six games by double figures. He saw another lopsided performance by the Nets, who have won a season-high seven straight games. "I've got good players," Frank said. "A lot of factors go into that, one of them being that we have a good team that has gone to the Finals the last two years. They have been through some tough times, they are a very resilient group. They have taken it to another level." New Jersey shot 66 percent (44-of-67) from the field through the first three quarters. It made 14-of-18 shots in the third period, opening its largest lead at 102-74 entering the fourth quarter. "A good team like this, when that get a rhythm, it's hard," Orlando forward Juwan Howard said. "When you start missing shots and they start getting fast-break points, it's such a disadvantage. A team like that gets confidence and in a rhythm and everything clicks on all cylinders." Kerry Kittles scored 12 points of his 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting in the first quarter and Kidd made 6-of-7 shots en route to 14 points in the third period as New Jersey rolled to its highest total of the season. "The honeymoon is over with, after the first game," Kidd said. "Coach Frank has settled down and taken control of the reins. He's done a wonderful job with it. We all understand and respect coach Frank. He comes with his game face." Aaron Williams scored a season-high 17 points and Richard Jefferson added 15 on 6-of-6 shooting for the Nets, who shot a season-high 60 percent (52-of-87) overall. New Jersey also set seasons highs with 52 baskets and 41 assists, including a career-high seven by rookie Zoran Planinic. Howard scored 24 points and Rod Strickland and Gordan Giricek each had 15 as the Magic played without All-Star guard Tracy McGrady, who again sat out with back spasms. "Being without Tracy put added stress on the team," Orlando coaching Johnny Davis said. "New Jersey played well and we did not. They took the game away and we basically got guys out there that don't play much and needed more experience."
