Game StoryATLANTA (Ticker) -- A change in strategy worked wonders for the Houston Rockets. Cuttino Mobley and Steve Francis led a dramatic rally in the fourth quarter as the Rockets pulled out an 86-77 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. For three quarters, little was going right for the Rockets as they tried to run their offense through 7-5 center Yao Ming. Yao missed his last six shots, and Houston faced a 62-51 deficit entering the fourth period. But coach Jeff Van Gundy sat down Yao early in the final quarter and went with a smaller lineup that improved things on both ends. That seemed to work as the Rockets heated up and outscored the Hawks, 34-11, over the final 10:14 en route to their third straight win. Francis scored 24 points and Mobley added 13 of his 15 in the fourth quarter. Mobley sank back-to-back 3-pointers to forge a 70-70 tie before Clarence Weatherspoon gave Houston the lead for good with his only basket of the game at the 3:03 mark. "It started with passing the ball better to the open man, which I think inspired great defense," Van Gundy said. "When Clarence came in, it all turned. We scored some easy baskets in transition, which helped. The guys did a great job in the fourth quarter." "I just tried to be aggressive in the second half," Mobley added. "They had us down and the momentum was their way, so we just tried to make anything possible happen. We got some steals, got some blocks, hit some shots and the game turned around." Atlanta, which had won consecutive games for the first time this season, was held without a basket for over six minutes. The Hawks had a 70-61 lead on Shareef Abdur-Rahim's short jumper with 7:07 to play but faced a 76-72 deficit when the drought finally ended. Atlanta, which had held Houston without a basket for 11:54 bridging the third and fourth quarters, failed to score on 10 straight possessions. Abdur-Rahim led the Hawks with 20 points was shut down by Weatherspoon during the collapse. "It was obvious in the fourth quarter Houston picked up their defense and we just lost from continuity," Atlanta coach Terry Stotts said. "On three straight possessions, we just didn't get much done on the offensive end and we took a step back tonight. In the fourth quarter, teams come back all the time. "They were aggressive and they had some quickness. We tried to get the ball to Shareef on the block and they did a good job of crowding him and making him find people on the weak side. Yao was on the bench but they have some good players out there." Houston had shot 36.5 percent (19-of-52) through 36 minutes. But the Rockets made 9-of-12 shots in the fourth quarter and posted their fourth victory in their last 16 visits to Atlanta. Mobley's fourth quarter was indicative of Houston's performance through three. He missed five of his first six shots but wound up 5-of-11 from the floor. "It was about time," Francis said. "He wasn't doing anything else but playing defense, so we needed some offense from him late and he really gave it to us."
