Game StoryMEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- The Memphis Grizzlies continue to reach new heights. Pau Gasol scored six of his 17 points in the final five minutes as the Grizzlies defeated the struggling Phoenix Suns, 97-92, to move 10 games over .500 for the first time in franchise history. Gasol's dunk snapped an 85-85 tie with 4:57 left and triggered an 8-0 spurt for the Grizzlies, who held the Suns scoreless for more than four minutes. A layup by Gasol made it 93-85 with two minutes remaining. "They did a good job of taking things away from us, but in the end we executed and made good tough moves to the basket and we won the game," Gasol said. Stromile Swift also scored 17 points for Memphis (32-22), which set a single-season franchise mark with its 21st home win. The return of forward Antonio McDyess, who was activated from the injured list before the game, could not prevent the Suns from losing their seventh straight. "Before this game, I tried to bring out that this (Suns) is a team that has lost 15 games by five points or less," Grizzlies coach Hubie Brown said. "We could not stop them on the fast break and second shots." Joe Johnson's 3-pointer pulled Phoenix within 95-92 with 10 seconds to go, but James Posey hit a pair from the line five seconds later to clinch the win. Posey led the Grizzlies with 18 points. Amare Stoudemire scored 23 points before fouling out with 4:28 remaining for the Suns. Shawn Marion recorded a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Suns. "I was trying to move out of the way and they still called it," Stoudemire said of his sixth foul. "I can't even get out of the way. It's tough, it's really frustrating." The Grizzlies shot 56 percent (14-of-25) in the first quarter to open a 36-26 lead. The Suns closed to 56-51 at halftime and tied it, 77-77, heading to the final period. "We got lax a little bit and careless with the basketball (in the second quarter)," Posey said. "We wouldn't make stops and they made a run." The Suns pulled even for the final time, 85-85, on Marion's layup with 5:56 left. They did not score again until Leondro Barbosa hit a 3-pointer with 1:42 remaining. Memphis improved to 6-27 all-time against Phoenix, which has dropped 13 of its last 15 games overall. "We started off in a hole, and that killed us," Marion said. "We've got to stop putting ourselves in a hole."
