Game Story

TORONTO (Ticker) -- Lawrence Frank and the New Jersey Nets are treating all opponents rudely - even ones whose coaches he admires. Richard Jefferson scored 20 points and Kerry Kittles added 19 as the Nets won their team-record 12th straight game, 91-72 over the undermanned Toronto Raptors, who are coached by Frank's mentor, Kevin O'Neill. Jason Kidd contributed 11 points and 15 assists for New Jersey, which improved to 11-0 under Frank and extended its team-record road winning streak to six games. Frank was a assistant under O'Neill at Marquette and Tennessee from 1992-96. "Kevin's one of my closest friends," Frank said. "We had some non-verbal gestures during the game. But you're in this league trying to win every single game, and that's what we're trying to do." "Lawrence I know very well, but that doesn't have any significance to me once we start the game," O'Neill said. "I talk to him on the phone. He's got a really good team and he's doing a nice job with them." The Nets scored the game's first seven points and never trailed as they stretched their NBA record for consecutive wins following a five-game losing streak. "We understand what's at stake with the streak, but we just want to go out and play hard and give ourselves a chance to win," Kidd said. "When you look back at the elite teams, the defending champs, San Antonio did it in the second half of the season with the best record. That is something we are trying to strive for." New Jersey had a 75-67 advantage with just under eight minutes remaining before Aaron Williams made three straight baskets to trigger a 14-0 run that put away the game. Donyell Marshall had 17 points and 13 rebounds to pace Toronto, which was missing injured starters Vince Carter and Jalen Rose. "Injuries are part of sport and we have to do with what we have," Marshall said. "We have to hold the fort down until these guys come back. We have to play a lot harder than we did tonight." The Nets ran past the Raptors, outscoring them, 30-6, on the break. "We're a fast-break team and the fact that they weren't as deep as they normally are, that affected them late in the game," Jefferson said. "Well, it was a 36-33 game and we gave up two or three fast-break baskets in a row," O'Neill said. "We gave up 22 or 24 points on fast breaks in the first half, which you know can't happen."
