Game StoryDALLAS (Ticker) -- Dirk Nowitzki collected 25 points and 12 rebounds and Antoine Walker had 17 and 10 as the Dallas Mavericks continued to dominate the Houston Rockets with a 97-88 victory. Michael Finley added 19 points for the Mavericks, who have won three in a row overall and six straight against their intrastate rivals. The Mavericks also continued to thrive at the American Airlines Center with their fourth straight home win. Dallas is 24-4 at home, the second-best mark in the league. Jimmy Jackson added 18 points and Cuttino Mobley had 16 for the Rockets, who had won two in a row. The Rockets are just 3 1/2 games behind the Mavericks, but Houston coach Jeff Van Gundy felt there is a much bigger difference between the teams. "We have many steps to take before we get there," Van Gundy said. "So we have to work hard, try to bounce back and play well tomorrow." The Rockets' starting backcourt of Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley had a rough night against the usually porous Dallas defense, making just 9-of-32 shots. "It wasn't their zone," Mobley said. "We had open shots but just didn't knock them down. I had a lot of open shots, they just didn't fall." Francis' squad has dropped 10 of the last 12 meetings with Dallas and he thinks the problem lies with the Rockets' offensive approach. "We settle for too many long shots instead of taking it to the basket," he said. "We began the game driving and kicking, but once they went to the zone, we just settled for the 3-pointer." Houston had no problems early, bolting to a 19-3 lead while the offense was clicking on all cylinders. Yao Ming had six points and Jackson five as the Rockets appeared ready to turn the game into a rout. Dallas trailed 30-16 after 12 minutes but opened the second quarter with a 24-9 burst. Josh Howard had seven points and Steve Nash added six in the spurt, capping it with a 3-pointer with 4:58 to go in the half. "They were full of energy, we couldn't guard them and they made every shot," Nowitzki said. "We knew they weren't going to stay hot for the whole game. We just tried to stay close, keep it in range." "We just got off to a slow start," Walker added. "They came out very aggressive. They had a few days off." The game was tied, 54-54, early in the third quarter when Nash hit a jumper and Walker added a 3-pointer and layup 22 seconds apart. Houston got no closer than three points thereafter and trailed by as many as 17 midway through the fourth quarter.
