Game Story

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Bucks are hoping their new look will translate into more wins on the road. Michael Redd scored 25 points to lead six players in double figures as the Bucks snapped a seven-game road losing streak with a 113-85 victory over the struggling Washington Wizards. Milwaukee has the fifth-best record in the Eastern Conference but would probably be among the top three if not for its struggles on the road, where it has lost 19 of 27 games this season - the worst road record for a team above .500 overall. "The important thing is that we broke the ice," Milwaukee coach Terry Porter said. "It's so important to win games on the road. We've done such a great job of protecting our home court. It's nice to come in here and play our best 48 minutes of basketball in about a month and a half on the road." The Bucks were successful in their first road game since acquiring forward Keith Van Horn in a trade with New York on February 15, posting their first victory away from the Bradley Center since January 5. "I haven't been here, but they seem like they've been starving for a road win," Van Horn said. "So it feels great to come in here and get this win. Hopefully, the second half of the season we'll really pick things up on the road." Milwaukee never trailed and pulled away in the third quarter, scoring 31 points on 11-of-19 shooting. Redd scored 12 points and Desmond Mason had 10 of his 14 in the quarter. The Bucks, who limited the Wizards to 14 points on 5-of-22 shooting. "We really came out strong in the third, moved the ball extremely well and got some easy opportunities," Porter said. "We were able to get in the open court and it really opened the game up. That was probably our best quarter of the year." Van Horn scored 13 points in his second game with Milwaukee and Brian Skinner collected 12 points and 12 rebounds as the Bucks shot 53 percent (43-of-81) from the floor. "They sent a message that they are playing for something," Washington coach Eddie Jordan said. "They took it to us. We just didn't compete." Joe Smith had 12 points and 10 rebounds as Milwaukee dominated inside, scoring 54 points in the paint. It had a 47-38 rebounding edge and scored 27 points off 14 offensive boards. "This gives us some confidence that if we go out and play Bucks' basketball that we definitely can win on the road," he said. "It's all downhill now. We only have (27) games left, so we have to do the neccessary things to win on the road in order for us to move up in the standings or stay where we are." Gilbert Arenas scored 21 points and Jarvis Hayes added 16 for the Wizards, who have lost five consecutive games by an average of 22 points. "The past couple of game we haven't been coming out and playing hard after halftime," Arenas said. "The third quarter is killing us and we need to keep our energy up and play harder." Washington lost guard Jerry Stackhouse with 5:13 left in the third quarter when he was ejected for throwing the ball into the stands following a foul call.
