Game Story

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Not only did Gilbert Arenas decide to shoot, he rebounded and passed. Arenas recorded his second career triple-double, collecting 21 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds to lead the Washington Wizards to a 95-87 victory over the Chicago Bulls. On Sunday, Arenas was criticized by teammate Kwame Brown for his tendency to take too many shots. He responded Wednesday by not attempting a shot until the fourth quarter of a 76-74 win in Toronto that snapped a five-game losing streak. One night after denying he was trying to send a message, Arenas led Washington to its sixth straight home win over Chicago. He made 7-of-15 shots and keyed an 13-1 run that gave the Wizards a 92-78 advantage with two minutes to play. "You have to do everything to help your team out," Arenas said. "That is what I get paid for, that is what all of us get paid for. I have an ability to rebound, so I might as well go and do it to help my team win." Arenas' previous triple-double was in a 100-90 win over Dallas on November 5. In this one, he matched a career high for rebounds and tied a season high for assists. He did npt score until the second quarter but excited the crowd at the MCI Center with a highlight reel dunk late in the first half. "I don't think you rally around negative things," Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said. "Maybe it's true, but I'd rather not rally around something that is negative. He's pushing the ball, he's passing the ball ahead. We've been emphasizing that for five months and he's doing that." After hitting a pair of 3-pointers that helped erase an 11-point deficit, Arenas gave the Wizards a 67-65 lead with a dunk late in the third quarter. Washington did not trail thereafter as Arenas and Brown combined for eight points during the decisive run. Brown downplayed the issue and seemed to feed off Arenas as he finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Brendan Haywood also scored 15 points. "It wasn't drama. You all made it drama," Brown said. "We said what we said and it was the truth. And now guys are playing. "Whatever happened, I would do it all over again - if we can keep playing like this. Everybody's trying to make such a negative spin. This ain't Hollywood. We're not in LA. We're losing, but we still have our pride." Kirk Hinrich scored 23 points for the Bulls (16-42), who clinched their sixth consecutive losing season by dropping their fourth straight game. Chicago went more than eight minutes without a basket in the fourth quarter after Hinrich's 3-pointer forged a 75-75 tie. With Hinrich on the bench with four fouls, the Bulls managed just two baskets in the first 10 minutes of the final period. "Foul trouble is definitely something that hurts this team," Chicago center Eddy Curry said. "Somebody is always in foul trouble. That's something we need to try and stay away from, but at the same time we can't lose our aggressiveness out there."
