Game StoryHOUSTON (Ticker) -- Steve Francis and the Houston Rockets were able to take advantage of the Portland Trail Blazers' sloppy play. Francis scored 21 points and helped the Rockets convert 18 turnovers into 27 points en route to an 89-85 triumph that snapped the Trail Blazers' season-high five-game winning streak. Cuttino Mobley added 16 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Rockets, who committed just 10 turnovers as they won a fifth straight home game. Portland scored only 10 points off Houston's giveaways. "The last couple of games we've kept our turnovers down, moved the basketball," said Francis, whose team had 22 assists. "The story of the game was turnovers by us," Portland coach Maurice Cheeks said. "Our turnovers kept us from scoring and led to quick baskets for them. Over the (last five games) we haven't been turning the ball over. But tonight we did." Houston held just a 69-68 edge after back-to-back baskets by Portland's Zach Randolph before Kelvin Cato made a pair of free throws with 10:33 remaining that began a 16-8 burst. Rockets forward Maurice Taylor scored six points during the run, which ended on his dunk that made it 87-79 with 4:55 to play. Houston held on despite a missed dunk by Cato and a double dribble by Francis. "We've got to keep trying not to do too much," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "The fourth quarter is an important time and you can't make the same mistakes in the fourth you may attempt in the first." Anderson scored 22 points and Randolph added 17 and 17 rebounds for Portland, which had won the opening two contests of a four-game road trip. "We played hard, we just didn't play smart," said Anderson, whose team failed to pick up ground in the race for a Western Conference playoff berth. "This is one that we definitely wanted to get to set the tone for the rest of the season. We have got to find a way to beat the teams ahead of us." The Trail Blazers, who have made the playoffs the last 21 seasons, are in ninth place in the West, 2 1/2 games behind eight-place Denver. "Obviously, this is a team we are trying to catch," Cheeks said. "But any loss at this point is tough for us while we're trying to catch anyone - Houston, Memphis or Denver."
