Game Story

SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- With Tony Parker playing so well, the San Antonio Spurs did not need Tim Duncan. Parker scored a season-high 29 points in 29 minutes as the Spurs rolled to a 117-92 victory over the Denver Nuggets, whose season-high losing streak reached five games. Before the game, the Spurs placed Duncan - the two-time NBA MVP - on the injured list with a left leg injury. Duncan, who was hurt in Thursday's loss at Dallas, will miss at least four more games. Rasho Nesterovic contributed 20 points and 12 rebounds and Malik Rose and 41-year-old reserve Kevin Willis chipped in 17 points apiece for the Spurs, who have won six in a row at home over the Nuggets. "Everyone picked up their game, especially Kevin Willis. He played great," Parker said. "Pop (coach Gregg Popovich) asked us to be very aggressive with the ball and try to push the ball and try to run." Playing just 14 minutes, Willis established a season high for points. "Kevin, Kevin ... aw, he's a scorer," Popovich joked. "He plays physical basketball and that's what he did tonight. It was fun to have him out there." "I just really love playing the game of basketball still, and I know my body is still capable of running, jumping and things like that," Willis said. "So when I'm out there, I honestly believe that I can be productive." Star rookie Carmelo Anthony led the Nuggets with 26 points but scored just six after halftime as the Spurs pulled away. San Antonio, which shot 51 percent (48-of-95), turned a four-point halftime edge into an 82-70 cushion after three quarters, then led by as many as 29 points down the stretch. "We just have to pick up the slack for our big guy," Willis said, referring to Duncan. "Everyone needs to help out somewhere, be it offense, defense, cheering the guys on, giving them encouragement, maintaining the level of focus mentally." The Spurs held a 51-38 rebounding advantage, including 17-7 on the offensive glass. "Tonight we didn't take advantage of a good situation," Anthony said. "Tonight they got almost every offensive rebound. They basically outhustled us tonight. ... Five straight losses is tough to take. We've basically got to get back on track and put this game behind us."
