Game Story

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Sixers picked a good night to give out Keny Thomas Bobblehead dolls. Despite playing with a sore thumb, Thomas scored a season-high 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Philadelphia 76ers rallied for an 97-88 victory over the Chicago Bulls. "It was good that I played this well on my Bobblehead night," Thomas joked. "It's my first one." Allen Iverson, back in the starting lineup after straining his Achilles' heel late in Thursday's loss to Sacramento, scored 20 points. He was held to two in the second half until making four free throws in the final two minutes. But Iverson handed out 11 assists, and the biggest benefactor was Thomas, who was 10-of-15 from the field. Thomas scored 12 points in the final period, helping the Sixers erase an eight-point deficit. "I was struggling with my shooting and I was trying to take what the defense gave me," Iverson said. "I didn't want to try to do too much, especially with Kenny going the way he was going. It was important for him to touch the ball and for us to find him." With the Sixers trailing, 83-79, Thomas made a pair of free throws with 5:41 left to ignite a decisive 18-2 spurt. Philadelphia opened its biggest lead, 97-85, on a jumper by Zendon Hamilton with 39 seconds remaining. Hamilton recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. "Just hustle, that's what I am about, pure and simple," Hamilton said. "I got a little lucky. My teammates were looking for me." Eddy Curry paced the Bulls with 24 points while Antonio Davis and Jamal Crawford added 16 apiece. Chicago opened a 71-63 lead in the final minute of the third quarter on rookie Kirk Hinrich's jumper. A 3-pointer by Hinrich gave the Bulls a 76-69 lead with 9:53 left, but Thomas scored six straight points to pull the Sixers within one. "Philly is a good team," Curry said. "They're the type of team you can't stay close to. You've got to have a nice cushion going into the fourth quarter and go into the final minutes with a force." The Sixers were 12-of-12 from the line in the fourth quarter while holding the Bulls to five baskets. Crawford's eight-footer with 6:05 left was Chicago's last field goal until the final minute. "Great fourth quarter, the way you draw it up," Iverson said. "That's the way you want it to be."
